screw me if germans...

The second plan to grow by three members starts with Missouri. If the Big Ten is going to go west, it would not gain that much from the addition of Missouri alone, in terms of markets. Illinois is already a presence in the St. Louis market, and the TV market in Kansas City in not big enough to be a deal-maker.

The Big Ten, however, would get a big push in national profile if, along with Missouri, it added Nebraska, which is almost back to being Nebraska in football, and Kansas, a premier basketball program.

The 14-member plan would constitute a raid on the Big 12 that would rival the Atlantic Coast Conference's strike on the Big East years ago.

I can see Missouri bolting for the Big 10. Nebraska...no way. The Big 10 should go after Iowa State.

The Big10 isn't even sending feelers out to other programs at this time - they're conducting their own research to see what the options are before trying to court anybody.

I wouldn't be surprised if they decide not to expand at all, truthfully.

I dunno. No one in the north likes Texas and OU, and the south doesn't care about the north.

It's a completely different conference feel than the SEC, to say the very least. There is some "pride" in the Big 12 south but even there long standing hatreds, a tradition of cheating (yOU know who), etc. stand in the way of cohesion. Big 10 may be wanting to pounce while they have the opp.

Yeah, but Nebraska is still a Big 12/Big 8 school. They have rivalries with OU and CU. They have somewhat of a new rivalry with Texas (even if they are on the losing end of it most of the time ). I just can't see them bolting for the Big 10.

This would be a bad mistake in my opinion.

Take Missouri and be done with it. They want in and I feel they would be a great addition.

Maybe, but in the BCS system its not going to benefit the conference I don't think.

-If there isn't a strong 3rd place team, they effectively eliminate a second BCS bid (look at the ACC).
-They want a new member to increase everybody's piece of the pie, not decrease it. So the new member will have to bring in some serious revenue potential. And more than just TV markets (Sorry, Rutgers).
-They have rigorous academic standards

All of this added up means it may be one member, but theres no way in hell bringing 3 new members in would increase each existing members piece of the pie.

ND fits it all perfectly, and Mizzou isn't a bad option. But those are the only two realistic shots IMO.
