This is how it was calculated. From what I can tell it’s a combination of Clemson’s recent success, the football programs’s very successful social media usage and the city’s small size (goes from 14K in summer to over 120K on game day).

4 Austin -- GREAT TOWN, just not a great football town -- most people don't care about gameday at all
It was not what I expected when we vacationed there. I expected to see Longhorns gear everywhere, people throwing hook em horns all over the place, everything burnt orange...but you'd never guess they had the team if you didn't already know. I definitely get the sense that a vast majority of the city either doesn't care about Longhorn football or actually dislikes people that do.

half the city isn’t from the state of TX anymore, so that could be why you aren’t getting the UT vibe, but gamedays are pretty clear on who the city roots for.
I live here in Austin currently and it’s almost always burnt orange during Saturday’s in the fall.

What does NBC know about college football?

This is a best cities for college football fans thread. No room for UNC fans considering Chapel Hill doesn’t even make top 5 in it's own state

Texas is on a different level than everyone else.
They are definitely not like B1G fans. B1G fans are for the most part what I call face painters.
They get up for games but Sunday through Friday they don't care about the team.
Texas fans aren't in your face and trashy but you will not find another fanbase that deeply cares about their football, university and way of life.
You saw glimpses of their fanbase this year with the hunger coming out.
That fanbase is probably the hungriest fanbase in CFB outside of Nebraska.

UGA wins this imo.

Pretty hot take there. I would wager fanbases like michigan, Ohio state, nebraska, etc would disagree.

I lived in Ohio for 15 years. I wholeheartedly disagree with this statement. B1G has the best fans outside of the SEC in the country. They travel as well as anyone.
Iowa and Wisconsin could sell 35,000 tickets to a bowl game in Damascus.

UW actually brought at least that many to Tokyo in 1993 for a regular season game against msu. Sold out the Tokyo dome.

Ohio St has probably one of the most trashiest fanbases online and in real life
They are more like a NFL team than a CFB team.

Morgantown, WV is underrated

Their fans in real life are worse than the ones online. Trust me. Those people think they are God's gift to college football and I hope for nothing but failure for them because of it.

Ohio St has some dedicated fans....don't get me wrong.
I measure a fanbase my how dedicated their fans are....365 days a year.
You can usually tell this by these message boards. Schools like LSU, Texas, Arkansas, A&M and Oklahoma have large message boards and fanbases that deeply care about football.
That is why you can sense tension at their football games.
Attend a Red River Shootout at the Cotton Bowl. You will be amazed.
When that tension is released it is not like a bunch of people yelling and screaming because they are there for a good time.

The television markets with the highest college football ratings are generally Birmingham, Columbus, New Orleans and Austin.
