Removing bias towards the player and the trash school...

College guy declares for NFL draft as a JR, isn't drafted, his career is over.

Personally, I don't like that at all. Baseball allows players to a certain point to come back and play for a higher slot (or risk for lower slot).

Football should be the same. Obvious parameters would need to be in place like draft spot (maybe 5th - 7th round early declarations could come back and play ONLY for the school they were at the year prior).

Typical
A&M finished 8-5, LSU finished 9-4

Apparently A&M gave up on their season after the LSU game.
Finished 1-4 in their last 5 games

But hey they beat LSU!!!

well, in baseball, you don't enter the draft. you're just drafted or not drafted. There is no deadline to remove your name like there is in football or basketball. In football you effectively forgo your amateur status when you enter the draft.

Have you spent the last 3 years closely following all of the lawsuits involving the NCAA?

Yes, he’s a media member, but he’s one of the media members that’s most closely followed this stuff and isn’t known as a hot take artist. Will a lawsuit actually happen? Maybe, maybe not, but I wouldn’t just dismiss it like Jason Whitlock said it

He's not even saying there's a lawsuit about to happen or opining on the actual merits of such a lawsuit. He's saying a guy he knows said Stewart was practicing with the A&M football team and might try to play. If you say his sources related to college football have been infallible in his career in media, maybe I could get on board with his vague comments from an insider, because that's all this is right now

True, and TY for the correction.

And same for college basketball.

I would like to see that changed. Wanted to see that changed since the days of Trev Faulk.

You can pull your name from consideration for the draft by a certain date in basketball and go back to college

It’s interesting in that I guess the suit would be against the NCAA in that once you enter the draft and declare yourself a pro is when you lose eligibility.

This is one I could see the NCAA winning, and doesn’t really make sense to me from Stewart’s side. I just don’t see an injunction being granted to let him play while the lawsuit is being worked through so it’d be kind of useless from his perspective.

And just looking at the situation as whole, Stewart seems like a malcontent, bad guy

Why is it allowed in Hockey, Baseball, etc?

He's working out with them while he remains unsigned. Not a big deal.

Barely.

Its definitely a shaky area legally if it's allowed in some sports by the NCAA but not others. Wouldn't be surprised if he got an injunction.

If it was done purposefully his agent would leak it to a NFL reporter not some dumbass podcast. The idea is fricking stupid because he was already a reach at 17 but going back to school he'd have to actually perform and they'd still colluded against his arse and drop him in the draft to teach him a lesson.

Entering your name into a draft and just being drafted is a pretty big distinction

Basketball is the example you should have used if you want to make that argument as you have to declare but still have the option to withdraw by a certain date and retain eligibility

The requirement to declare is the issue.

Way more crazy shite (unlimited transfers, 7th years, etc) have been ligated and won.

This wouldn't be surprising since the NCAA already allows it.
