only lower level teams, the level of competition in the SEC is much greater than in the MWC or MAC.

I would limit it to 4 that would keep the importance of the regular season and avoid situations like Auburn in 2004, USC in 2003 an Texas this year.

I could go with that

I like the BCS the way it is honestly, and for a playoff system i think best record not division winner should get home field. thats about the only tweaking i would do

Well I can win my division but have a harder schedule than the team that has an overall better record that didn't win their division.

You can make the arguement that a team who plays a harder schedule is more likely to improve and know where they are as a team opposed to a team who plays an easy schedule.

and winning head to head doesn't mean they are better.

This season if there was an 8 team playoff, Utah could get far, most years however, there isn't a mid-major like Utah, usually the teams ranked 5-8 are teams from the BCS conferences that have a couple of losses and having them in a playoff would just give teams that had lesser regular seasons a shot.

but they went undefeated also. totally unfair that they didnt get a shot. they would have definitely had a shot in a playoff system.

most years there has been amid major that has gone undefeated. boise, hawaii, utah, and a few others. hawaii ultimately got handled, but that still doesnt meant hat they shouldnt get a shot because of a perceived notion that one conference is better than the other. everyone was saying how weak the nfc west was and the cardinals would be one and done yet they destroyed the nfc south teams that were from a stronger conference.

while the nfl playoffs arent perfect, they are far better than the bcs, a system that doesnt even give a fair shot to like 70% of the teams in div 1a.

In CFB its not a perception, that level of talent is much greater in the elite conferences though the gap is narrowing.

The NFC West was garbage, but the difference in pros is slight compared to the difference in college. Az could have gone 7-9 and still made the playoffs (theoretically a team could go 6-10 and win a division, hell even a4-12 or even 3-13 team could)

The point is why should Az be given a chance to play Atl and Car who had much better seasons. let alone get to host 2 playoff games.

probably would have played USC in the first round of an 8 team playoff and made an early exit.

They were actually 6th, I forgot about Bama

Using the BCS
1. OU
2. UF
3. Texas
4. Bama
5. USC
6. Utah
7. Texas Tech
8. Penn State

so undefeated Boise State STILL gets left out (for all the playoff lovers).

so they play Texas and then the UF/ TT winner if they beat Texas.

With those rankings my guess we'd get either UF/USC or UF/OU.

do you think the talent level at smaller schools would improve if they actually had a shot to do something? I believe it would.

regardless of what you think, the playoffs system allows a team to control its own destiny. the nfl playoff isnt perfect, but it is much closer than the bcs, at least the game is decided on the field. The only issue seems to be division champs getting in over teams with better records, but the nfl isnt going to do away with divisions and rivalries. its not going to happen.

It is about who can win on the field and take home the title. If a team is supposedly better and according to what ?, they should be able to take home the title. That is logically to me.

The BCS is fricked up every year.

There was another 11-5 team that didn't make the NFL playoffs in 1985. One failure every quarter century is definitely better than the BCS letting OK lose every other year.

get rid of divisions and you get rid of rivalry

One thing to understand in this discussion -- the NFL will never, EVER get rid of divisions. Divisions keep fan interest alive, which means higher TV ratings and more $$$.

No it wouldn't do any more for them than the current setup, which essentially guarantees a non BCS team a BCS Bowl gives them exposure and additional revenue that can improve their facilities, but in the end most of the smaller conference schools are not able to compete with the top BCS schools for top talent, or be able to bring in the the of revenue which goes back into the football program.

I do agree with that, though more so in the NFL than in CFB. Realistically you really couldn't do more than 8 teams in CFB and this year that would mean leaving out Unbeaten Boise or maybe Penn State

Arrgg, where exactly did Florida and OU decide it if it wasn't on the field? Just because there are not multiple, extra games doesn't mean it isn't decided on the field. The teams that play in the BCS CG are chosen based on what they did on the field over the course of 12 games.

If the BCS fit cfb so well, you wouldn't have all these debates at the end of almost every season.

That's the fault of the anti-BCS whiners.
