Unless people are going to make a playoff where you only get in if you win your conference it is a dumb system. We might as well keep the BCS the way it is.
The system would have to include at least the 6 major conference champions. The system has to allow mid majors to be involved.
So basically you can't have just a 6 team playoff with two teams getting a bye. The mid majors would then go crazy because they wouldn't feel they would get in. If you made a rule to allow one in the other big conferences would go ape shite.
So now we are to an 8 team playoff. Well you have the 6 major conference champions. Now what do you do about the other 2. Well if we use logic and respect conference champions. The second team in a given conference is no better than #2 in the country. So in my opinion I don't think they should have to eliminate a team twice in a tournament. I personally would use the BCS computers to seed the top 8 conference champions. Most people would be mad at the inclusion of the mid majors, but it can only be better for football. They would typically be the lower seeds in the playoff and would hardly ever win with the current situation of college football. It would become a war however in the mid major ranks to get into the playoff. I think it would increase the competitiveness of the other schools.
So when the playoff is done the winner is ranked #1 and the rest of the ballot is ranked; however the voter chooses. This could mean the top 3 are all SEC with the champion as #1 and the non playoff participants being #2 and #3. Everyone has a chance based on play on the field and it respects the regular season. The playoff committee would accept the conference champions and let the conferences figure out how they are decided. The conference is going to always strive to put its best team in. Their is no bias in the teams included in regards to the playoff committee.

Stop right there, that is a horrible idea, its why we have 8-8 SD in the playoffs and 11-5 NE out. What you are advocating is giving teams like 4 loss Va Tech a shot while leaving Texas, Bama and TT out, frick that.

NFL playoffs > BCS. I don't want human voters and ESPN power polls determing who should play for a championship or right to go to the Super Bowl. Determine that shite on the field like most other sports. If you have the best record in the NFL and don't bring your "A" game then that's on you. Prepare better!

How would you determine which 8 or 16 or 32 teams would make the CFB playoff? At some point you are going to have to choose teams, there are too many and too much disparity in the level of competition to simply take the teams with the best records.

why don't apply that same standard to team during the regular season? Having too many teams in the playoffs just gives mediocre teams another shot. (note no one is saying eliminate the NFL playoffs, just have fewer teams in them)
