No it isn't.

In conjunction with other changes in CFB, it would make things much more interesting.

Think baseball without the interleague BS.

For successful athletic departments like Ohio State and ND, the money argument is such crap. Poverty programs like Maryland need conference TV money, not Ohio State.

This is mindblowingly stupid and misses the point anyway. If a team can make MORE as part of a conference then they would be stupid and in the case of a PUBLIC school like Ohio State, financially reckless bordering on criminally negligent, to take less just because they wouldn't have to share with a smaller program. They still have to have teams to play and having a conference schedule makes things a lot easier is playing Indiana as a conference game any worse than playing Wake Forest as an OOC team?

quote:

Youre right, ND makes less from TV contracts, but their nationalized brand more than makes up for that ~$5 million difference, especially in terms of prestige for which there is no pricetag

and no one else has that but the NBC deal certainly doesn't hurt.

And I honestly think Ohio State would be just as, if not more attractive, than ND as an independent. That alumni network is 4-5x as strong.

ND has more national appeal than anyone. Sure Ohio state fans travel and they are every where, but that doesn't mean a TV network would pay anywhere close to what they make as a member of the B1G. Part of their brand is because of the B1G.

nah, it would bet silly and get boring, fast.

Best thing would be a) eliminate games with FCS teams b) no more than 7 home games a year c) If your conference has more than 10 teams, play 10 conference games and ensure that every teams plays every other team at least once every 4 years. If fewer than 10 teams, then play all conference memebers. d) for BCS conferences at least 1 OOC game vs other BCS conference. or only 1 "rent a win" game per year.

Not sure what is so funny.

It's funny because it is coming from a Notre Dame fan. Of course you want big time teams such as Ohio State to follow the independent model. Large conferences with more conference games are not in Notre Dame's best interest.

9 game conference schedule, one marque game and 2 middle of the pack schools. Schools like ASU or Miss St that rise up on occasional years. No Jerrybowls. Takes revenue away from local vendors.

Playing more conference games is not backwards logic. Its actually the opposite. The more the Big Ten expands its footprint and the more the Big Ten Network grows, the more each university gets paid! Ohio State vs Indiana on BTN is more financially profitable then Ohio State vs Texas or Alabama because the money stays in conference. There is a reason why so many conferences would love to have their own network like the Big Ten does. 10-11 conference games isnt out of the question once the Big Ten sees how much money the rake in!

Not sure why they accept other B1G schools to leach off their successes. With no incentives to improve, since everyone gets paid the same, the conference will remain mediocre.

you'd make a good Texas fan

Right. Regionalizing football games, when only 12 are played per year, is the epitome of progressive thinking. What was I thinking?

Lets go back to horse and buggy as well.

Why do you care about conference money? Are you pocketing any as a fan? The TV contract model is outdated anyways. Wont last much longer. Once that happens, teams will be even smarter to go independent.

Buy the "Ohio State app" at $4.99 a month for full season HD access. All profit goes to Ohio State. No leaches. Coming soon.

Im an Ohio State alum.

Large conferences do not threaten ND anyways, its access to the playoff, which is not going to be an issue.

As am I. There are far more Notre Dame "fans" that didn't attend the university than there are Ohio State alumni and non-alumni fans combined.
