This happens constantly in college basketball and it infuriates me. Completely ruins the flow of the game.
The first half made me want to watch more college basketball. The second half reminded me why I don’t

While I acknowledge basketball officiating is a very tough job, I do agree that for a national championship game, it was very poorly called, probably one of the worst officiated games ever for an NCAA title game. Only four fouls on both teams combined in the first hall were called. So the refs certainly swallowed their whistles a lot in that half. They then went crazy in the second half, calling a lot of touch fouls that in the first half, would have been ignored.
For years, I have understood that coaches especially want officials to BE CONSISTENT--meaning, call it both ways on both ends of the court.
In the end, the call that was the worst by far and that officials at that level should not miss, was the obvious goal tending by Florida late in the first half. Houston should have had a 5 point halftime lead, not 3. And those two extra points would have crucial. Can Florida recover from a 14-point deficit in the second half? Perhaps, but we'll never know. Their winning margin was 2 points and that missed goal tend cost Houston two points they deserved.

the missed goal tend swung the entire game
that's two points for Houston and a run out for Florida that led to a 3 pointer
difference in game at end
in a year where everything was reviewed all game they don't review that

I thought it was odd they didn't review that play (or maybe they did and the broadcast crew didn't tell the audience). In a sport where the number of reviews have become annoyingly absurd, I figured they would at least take a look at that non-call during a break.
The officiating was just really, really bad all the way around

Nah, they were trying to swing momentum back to UF, so they couldn't kill what they had created. They knew it was obvious, everyone watching the game on TV knew it, and both benches knew it.
Should have been Houston up 8 with UF taking the ball out. Instead it was Houston up 6, UF gets a run out 3 and cuts the lead to 3. A literal five-point swing due to blatant cheating. Yeah, I said it. It was that obvious.
As someone else pointed out earlier, more whistles in the second half meant more stops, more commercials, etc. The second half was CLEARLY brought to us by Fan Duel lololol
I don't get how anyone can watch major sports now with this officiating and not realize how rigged this all is, especially with gambling. These guys last night should call up Goodell. They would make great NFL game fixers.

It's 10:08 and refs are still stupid.
