This is for anyone that's never seen the transformation of this stadium 3 times in a 21 year period.
Construction began on July 10, 1993.
Opened: May 18, 1996
Braves: 1997-2016
Georgia State: 2017 - current
Olympics capacity: 85,000
Braves capacity: 54,000
Georgia State capacity: 25,000

I'm embarrassed to admit that I probably went to 150 games or so at Turner Field, and not once did I ever realize that the plaza area outside the outfield gate area represented the horsehoe of the olympic stadium, with what appears to be the original pillars and all.
I mean, obviously I knew that's where the temporary olympic seats were, as that's where I sat when I attended some track and field, but I didn't know that they represented those seats with that curved fence along the street. Mind blown.

I don’t think I realized they built the stadium knowing it would become the braves home field. I always thought it just kindve happened after the fact (I was 2 during the Atlanta games). Pretty cool forward thinking by the planners.

Went to quite a few games there during my time in Atlanta, but when we drove past it in April, it looked like dog shite and is in some serious need of a pressure washing.
Georgia State needs to clean that place up.

Yeah it’s a great example of forward thinking and planning. They specifically built the stadium to use for baseball after the games. Of all the stories about Olympic venues wasting away, this has to be one of the most successful post-game stadiums in the world.

We passed it, just recently, on the way to a wrestling tournament in Atlanta for my son. It looks like shite, my son said it looks like it needs to be pressure washed.
Edit... Rummy already beat me to it...
But yeah, it really looks run down.

I have many many great memories inside that stadium. In the late 90's, living in suburban Atlanta, the Braves games were big fun. The Chop House had 5.00 tickets.
Not a bad seat in that place to see a game.
