That's not a very big cell over Atlanta, but it's going to last just long enough to knock Kyle out of the game, I guess.

Who are we going to trade for though that fits and would be an upgrade?

Odor and Adam Frazier are the names I’ve seen thrown around and they are having pretty bad years.

I don’t understand how, but 2nd base is probably the weakest position in the majors. There’s just not a lot of options.

Joey Wendle is the only one I can think of (don’t understand how we doesn’t have an everyday job somewhere), and doubt the Marlins want to trade him / trade him to us.

Edit: I agree Arcia / Gosselin aren’t likely to get it done and we need to upgrade our bench.

Those are the low risk moves you try and make.

Soler and Rosario were both having god awful seasons when we brought them in. You hope that a new environment and better lineup protection ups their production.

I think they wanted to see if Arcia could find some of early Brewers form, hasn't happened unfortunately.

It's also still early in terms of relation to the deadline, but if this Arcia/Gosselin production keeps up the rest of this month, then it's going to happen. Remember, we didn't make the first OF trade (Joc) until right after the All Star break. Yeah, Acuna's injury may have forced our hand a little bit, but we were always going to make a move for OF because Heredia, Abraham Almonte and Ehire Adrianza were platooning out there.

I think you see a move turning a Justin Dean-like prospect into a better backup infielder.

Again, this is just as much about strengthening the bench for September as it is finding a band-aid for Ozzie.

I don't disagree with you in principle, but I'm just not sure the urgency to improve the roster is what it was last year. If a great deal avails itself, then I'm all for it. I'm trying to look at the landscape of middle infielders who could be available, that wouldn't cost much, and that would have the potential to improve on what we already have.

I see Adam Frazier, who is not having a great year, which might drive down his cost. But that's about it.

I'll bet this game gets finished tomorrow afternoon. That cell looks like it is just hovering.

You youngsters wouldn’t understand, but there’s absolutely no chance I’m giving up on a Braves game during a rain delay on the 4th of July.

I think it's all going to depend on the Mets series next week and where we stand in the East heading into the All Star break.

Regardless, you could argue the urgency to improve the roster would be greater this year compared to last, especially with the Mets getting Scherzer back and deGrom coming back soon.

I remember being at the Braves/Rays game the day the Joc trade happened last year. Morton was starting that game and there was talk that could be his last start if we lost any more ground in the decision and became sellers. There was also talk that we would immediately flip Joc to a contender too if that happened.

No one knew if we were buyers or sellers at the deadline.

Frazier I can see more than Odor. Hasn’t been that long since he’s been good and provides some positional versatility when Ozzie is back. But the Mariners are not completely out of the playoff hunt in a year they wanted to compete so they aren’t going to sell early.

I think Odor is what he is. He hasn’t had an OPS approach .700 since 2019. But the Orioles might just give him to us.

I understand all that, but what I meant by urgency, is that our offense was all but dead before the deals last year. Right now, it's humming along. So it would seem that if they do make a move, it would be a low risk, medium-high reward type of player. And, as I was getting at before, the market is pretty thin on middle infielders. I'm by no means against an upgrade, if they can find one on the cheap. It's gonna be tough.

One thing that is very different from last year is that we knew we had to win the division. Obviously we want to win it, but we have one of the best records in the NL, and there is of course an extra playoff spot now. Again, though, if something materializes, I'm sure the Braves wouldn't pass up a good deal.

Glad this isn’t under the pre-COVID rainout rules of MLB. We’d be getting screwed out of a win.

Wonder if the Braves try to get Matzek a low leverage inning tonight to get him back into the swing of things.
