Can someone who knows what happened to our hitting over the last few seasons enlighten me on what’s changed? Freddie was the only consistent hitter who’s no longer in a Braves uniform. I’m specifically talking about the drop off that occurred after the season we were crushing HRs and had like 7 players above like 850 OPS. Was it purely coaching changes? Seems like everyone from before than that’s still on the team, aside from Acuña and Ozuna, has gotten significantly worse.

I think it's a combination of a few things:

1. AA built a roster to mash home runs right at the same time the league started changing the rules and the baseballs to get more action on the bases. Slightly deadened baseballs exposed this roster as being very one-dimensional. They've tried changing their approaches this season but they're trying to do stuff none of them are really good at doing.

What would the 2023 season look like if you took 10-15 feet off of every fly ball they hit?

2. They signed a roster full of passive nice guys who put too much pressure on themselves in tight situations. That's the only thing that explains their numbers with runners on base vs bases empty, IMO.

3. Along that same line, the 2023 NLDS broke them mentally, and they haven't been the same since the Arcia/Harper incident. Instead of saying "yeah, so what" like they should have, their reactions told the world they were scared of what was going to happen next.

Appreciate your post. If that’s all true, then how would you “fix” it? Seems like this season is a bust based on your points. And from that perspective, aside from a few guys that are still pillars of a great team, they gotta clean house. Just sucks knowing we were built for a solid 3-5 year window of being World Series contenders based on one approach, but that same approach is now what has closed that window prematurely.

It’s weird to be basically eliminated from post season contention the first week of June. Been decades since that was a thing.
The window is officially closed thanks to AA and Liberty/AtlBarves inc.

I’m not sure it is. Most of the big HR hitters of 2023 are still mashing outside of ours.

Losing the fan base completely in hopes of getting fired.

Kimbrel is one of the fan favorites over the last 10-15 years - really only Freddie and Acuna come close to reaching his level.

Doing this to him is obviously going to piss fans off.

I think you're overrating that big time. At least, that was not in my consideration at all.

It's not about Kimbrel being a fan favorite, it's about punting on a guy after one appearance to bring up another guy who you will likely be sending back down after one appearance.

It's just weird.

It matters more to the fans when you dick around a fan favorite. You know that.

The only thing I’ve seen that makes sense is Kimbrel knows the end is near and wanted to finish where it started. If Kimbrel’s intent is to retire, let it be known. Doing it this way - as you said - makes no sense,

Lol Kimbrel hasn't been around for a decade. It's not that deep.
