Arica’s already back. Listened to a postgame podcast the last 2 nights, and they were thinking it’d be another week or 2. I’m assuming we sent Shewmake back down?

Just saw that in the other thread. I’ll post my thoughts here instead.

Wonder if they put a LF glove on him?

They need to. He’s already got like 6 errors, and has left another couple outs on the field by waiting back for balls that became infield hits or made a bad throw or feed on a few potential double double plays.

And he hasn’t been hitting worth a shite. We know his bat can play at the big league level, I think the pressure of playing short was affecting his offense. But, Shewmake needs everyday ABs himself. I guess he’ll go down as soon as Adrianza’s back? I hate trading position players when we have so few, but I’d be surprised if one of Vaughn or Shewmake aren’t moved at either the deadline or in the off-season.

Depending on how bad Wright’s hurt, one of them may get packaged and moved for a starter before the deadline. Obviously, I’d rather keep Vaughn. Not sure how much value either has, though. Shewmake may actually have a little more at this point since he can actually handle short at the big league level.

We do have a couple other SS prospects, but they’re all like 19 or 20 and don’t project as big leaguers until ‘25/‘26. The Arcia we saw at the beginning of the season can hold it down that long. But is that really him? Guess we’ve got a few months to figure that out before the deadline.

Is he “out” out? Or just a day off due to the really quick turnaround?

Seems like just a day off.

This may be a hot take that I’ll regret, but I feel like a healthy 2023 Arcia will give us more than enough production at SS to make a deep playoff run.

Good. He took a beating yesterday. I don't know how catchers take foul balls off of the nuts like he did last night.

I don’t think that’s a hot take at all. I agree completely. I think he, like a lot of players, benefits from playing every day and will produce more with 4 ABs a day than he has been just getting spot starts.

As long as he’s playing a good defensive SS, the offense is plenty good enough if he does regress a little. I mean, Ronnie and Murphy might finish 1/2 in MVP voting if the season ended today. And Riley looks like he’s about to break out, Ozuna’s killing it the last week, Olson is producing despite all the Ks and probably hitting in the wrong spot in the lineup. Harris is back now and hasn’t had time to give us much of anything yet, Pillar and Eddie look like a nice platoon pair in LF. Travis will be back soon and he was killing it in his new role. Just got McCugh Igleseas back. We’ve had a couple guys who should still be in AAA start 5-6 games, etc…

All that, and we still have the 2nd best record in baseball for a team that typically plays its best baseball in the 2nd half. Fully healthy, this team could win the World Series.

But I do think AA will probably have to make a couple moves to add to the pen and probably the back end of the rotation, depending on how long Wright is out and if Soroka can wind up being a 5th starter. Morton and Elder have low key been the MVPs of the staff so far this year. I mean, you know Fried and Strider are gonna give you Cy Young caliber starts, but it’s the former 2 that have really stepped up and given us much more than expected.

Does Andruw Jones call games for the Braves? Man sounds like he has very little experience as an announcer.

Nice start with an Olson bomb. Love seeing him go the other way with power.

Nice to hear Big Ben on the call today.

Not on tv. I doubt radio either. He’s probably too busy following his kid to entertain doing it enough to get good at it. He’s made too much money too.

Elder is a pleasure to watch pitch

Reminds me of Medlen when he was locked in that one year
