That was sweet! I knew he was safe on the replay, but have no confidence on the replay officials to get it right. Nice to see a correct call.

So technically yes, but it hasn’t happened in over 100 years in the MLB, long before helmets were required.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ray_Chapman

Raymond Johnson Chapman (January 15, 1891 – August 17, 1920) was an American baseball player. He spent his entire career as a shortstop for the Cleveland Indians. Chapman was hit in the head by a pitch thrown by pitcher Carl Mays and died 12 hours later. He is the only player to die directly from an injury received during a major league game

Neat fact I didn’t know about:
His death led baseball to establish a rule requiring umpires to replace the ball whenever it becomes dirty.

The general idea of going to the bullpen in the middle of an inning is to put out the fire. Our pen kind of seems more like gasoline than an extinguisher, at the moment.

That seemed like a pretty aggressive pull by Snit standards

Our whole bullpen is helpless right now.

So glad he brought the 'pen in to make it better. I don't trust them with the bases empty, but two runners on is asking for exactly what we got.

They remind me of the pics of baby seals getting clubbed.

Yeah I know the whole bullpen sucks right now but Tonkin was a weird choice.

Like he still stands out as bad despite how bad our pen has been.

Hilliard keeps missing fastballs right down the middle.

That's because most pitchers don't aim for the head, and batters usually get out of the way when they see it coming up there. And then the helmet, of course. The danger is always there, however, and it's why you should never throw at someone's head on purpose. If that ball gets under the bill and hit's someone on the forehead where there is no protection, it would be awful.

I know Shewmake has never really hit at any level, but wow. He must be unfathomably bad for the Braves to pretty openly say they'd rather have Adrianza on the big league roster than him.

Small sample size, but he’s been crushing lately. I think he hit like 4 bombs in a pretty short stretch recently.

I don’t disagree with you, serious injury can occur when someone.gets hit in the head. I was curious after reading your statement and wanted to see how often it had happened.

The reason behind the replacement of a dirty ball was a neat find.

Not his role now, but I think he’s definitely one who’s significantly better when he hits every day.

Yeah, maybe so. He was hot there for a while, but for some reason we just had to get Ozuna in the games, as if that's a good idea.

For as bad as we thought the Jimenez trade was when it happened... turns out it was actually worse than we thought.
