I think Olson is going to have a monstrous season. He's another year away from all of the Freeman bullshite and he should be a lot more comfortable in year two. I would not be shocked if he has a top 3 MVP caliber season.

I agree with you.
And we could get similar production from Acuna and Riley.

Yeah I mean, all three will probably be in the top 4 of NL MVP vote getters

So what would it take to re-sign Fried?
6 years and $160 mill?
2024 - $22.5 mill
2025 - $27.5 mill
2026 - $27.5 mill
2027 - $27.5 mill
2028 - $27.5 mill
2029 - $27.5 mill
I doubt he would take that. Probably wants more. But, if we go that high and don't get him, how much higher should we go?
And then, go take a look at our salaries on Spotrac.com for 2025 and beyond. Would we be able to keep everyone AND add pieces as needed?
It's a tough spot for us to be in..... he's one of the Top what, 10 starting pitchers in the game? Top 15?

No surprise, but Soroka was assigned to AAA today.

The Braves have the 7th highest payroll in MLB, yet you say this:
Sound logic.
I think you truly aren't happy unless you're always unhappy/bitching about something.

The only thing that can help AA make this decision is if Wright keeps pitching the way he has. If Soroka returns to form, Ian Anderson (I know I know I'm just saying)....
The Freddie situation - once we got Olson, I was ok.
The Dansby loss - I know we'll feel it.
But which one is worse - can we financially afford to keep Fried and the roster together long term.... vs Can the team (level of play and WS chances) afford to let Fried walk in free agency???

He's a top 3 or 4 pitcher in the NL at the very least. I'd say top 10 more likely than top 15, but it's all subjective.
Hell, you could even make the argument though that he's top 4 in his own division behind Verlander, Nola and Scherzer.

No doubt.
What do you think it will cost to keep him?

I really have no idea, but based on trends, I think a LHP still in his prime (age 31) will command a roughly $30m+ AAV heading into the 2025 season.
I think whoever does get them won't regret paying that either.

SO, a 6 year deal for a 31 year old pitcher....
That's 2-3 really good years with the last 2-3 years on the deal, most likely, being injury prone or not up to par and not worth the $30 mill
That's what we've seen historically.
Keeping him is risky.
SO is losing him. He gives you a chance to win any game he starts.

I don't think you can assume injuries when you sign someone. And, like AA said this offseason, Fried has such an easy delivery that I don't think his pitching is going to drop-off that much on the backend of a 6 year deal (age 35, 36 and 37) seasons.
Fact of the matter is, his value inflates because he gives you something from the left side and throws a high spinrate.

We aren’t resigning Fried. We got our use out of him. Let someone else pay for the back end of his career.
