Just gotta hope a trade is in the works for a SP I guess. Then probably a Flarehty tier signing on a one year prove it deal.

3 year/ 75 Million for Gray...
Not understanding why we didn't offer that. Seems very reasonable on years and price.

Cupboard is getting light on choices, for sure. Snell/Montgomery/the two Japanese pitchers are still out there, but Gray would have been nice.

Especially since we were in on Nola. Per MLB Trade Rumors we offered 6 for $162m for Nola, then upped it to an unknown figure later before he re-signed with Philthy.

I think a trade has to be in the works and they go sign a 4/5th starter type

We have nothing of value to trade unless we part ways with MLB starters.

The problem with signing Gray was always the loss of picks due to the declined QO moreso than actual money/years on the deal.

If that's what really was the holdup on signing Gray or any other QO'd player this offseason, then that's kinda dumb, especially for a team right in the middle of its window. You lose one pick.

Agreed. Need to restock system but damn, gotta strike while iron is hot.
Per Nightingale we are engaged with trade talks with White Sox for Cease.
Would destroy clubhouse, but could see Ozzie being on the block...pretty attractive contract obviously. Vaughn a cheap replacement. Offense not our problem compared to SP. Package him and AJSS maybe to get Cease

I don't think parting with Ozzie to get Cease makes us a better team though, just opens one hole to fix another hole.
Ozzie is important for the vibes, but more important for lineup balance because he's a switch hitter that gives you 85-100 RBI and 25-30 HR a season. Can't let that go.

I think it would be close. Probably not a better team in regular season, but probably better in postseason.
But Ozzie production at 2nd is elite so you are probably right. Just trying to figure out what we could offer to the Sox. Would hate to lose Waldrep but he would probably have to be involved.

I think fans would be more upset to have Ozzie leave than when Freeman left. He is such a positive player

It would take Waldrep plus more to get him.
Like I said earlier, if we are serious about competing, we have to be a player in FA market at some point because we've pretty much used up our farm for trades/call-ups.
I just fear that will never happen because of Liberty's budget and AA's notorious fear of giving out longterm contracts to players over the age of 25.

I don't know about that, but it would be close.
I am very curious to see how Ozzie handles not having his baseball dad coaching 3B/infield for the first time in his MLB career.

Yeah I can't imagine a GM like AA ever giving up a guy with the positional value Ozzie has on the deal he is on unless there was something else going on that we don't know about behind the scenes.

I feel like we're dangerously close to entering a purgatory-like state where AA is trying so hard to have his cake and eat it too. Meaning, I fear that he thinks he believes the foundation of this team is solid enough to have the chance to frick-around-and-win-a-title for the next five years, and he should believe that because it is. But in believing that he seems unwilling to push all his chips on the table and just sell out for a 2-3 year win-now run, opting to instead always keep that financial flexibility.
That's fine if we win one more title in this window, but it can also mean we keep coming up just short in the postseason through the remainder of Acuna's contract... and that would just suck.

Is that you Jeff Schultz? B/c he's been pushing for that for the last 3 weeks.
You are right, it would destroy the clubhouse and IMO would be a fireable offense for AA.

Every time you say something is a "fireable offense for AA" (Letting Freddie walk, letting Dansby walk, trading Soroka) that move ends up happening and then you welch on what you originally said by posting your usual "trust in AA" nonsense.
So I guess Ozzie's gone.
Please just shut the frick up. Your words mean nothing.
