Astros vs Patriots

I haven't really followed either story closely but just on cursory examination, can someone explain to me why these two are being treated completely differently?
So the Astros cheated by spying on other teams using technology.
The Patriots cheated by spying on other teams using technology, twice.
The Astros are being burned at the stake.
The Patriots have been and are being slapped on the wrist. Twice. Thrice if we're also counting deflategate. Yet another instance of the Patriots cheating to gain a direct, competitive advantage on the field.

It’s whatever the media wants to portray it as
Pats have a long history of cheating and doing bush league shite

Baseball has more "tradition" and "integrity" so they take anything that tarnishes their reputation more seriously.
Or Goodell is just a frickwad.
Or maybe a bit of both.

They did a bang up job with the roids and all of that...

Patriots lost a 1st round pick for Deflategate. I would say losing a first rounder in the NFL is much worse than two first rounders in MLB.

That's what I figured it was.
But even more surprising is that nobody is even pointing out this very succinct and perfectly-fitting contrast in coverage. Am I taking crazy pills?
The first time I heard about the Astros thing, the very first thing that popped in my head, because it just occurred like 2 months ago, was the Patriots Spygate II. Yet I haven't heard a single media member draw a comparison between the two even if just for the lack of coverage of the comparison.

As an Astro fan, I'm 100% without concern over public perception of what they did or did not do.
Firing Hinch was bonus - too bad this didn't come out before last season.

I was speaking more about the way they're getting drilled in the media over it. It's on every network and every show and it's still going on. Every time the Patriots have cheated the story ran here and there for like a day or two. This last time everybody was just like, "Yep that happened again. Now in other news..."

UHHH yea I hate the hate that the Astros are getting (see thread made)
But the Pats Deflate and Spygate were news for a long time.
I mean they suspended Tom Brady for 4 games.
That was the entire summer talk going into the season.

Again, I'm focusing more on the way the media chooses to cover it.
The fact that the media choose to cover certain events and not others or the way they cover certain events in comparison to others even if they're two like events that are very similar, gives rise to conspiracy theories and erodes trust between the public and the media. Fake news, indeed.
And if you don't think the way the media covers these events has a real, tangible effect, why do you think the Astros owner just fired top people in his organization? I don't remember Robert Kraft firing Bill Belichick for cheating. Three times.
It's easier to sweep shite like this under the rug when the media holds the edge up while you handle the broom.

Yeah, like I said, I haven't followed all of it that closely but just looking at it from the outside, the level of vitriol for the Astros seems way higher than for the Patriots.
I despise double standards and hypocrites.

you're lying to yourself.
the media CRUSHED the pats.
for MONTHS
Kraft just doesn't give a frick. This is the same guy who was at first thought to be in a Sex Trafficking scandal (later changed to less but still a crime) and didn't say anything for 2 months.

disagree completely.
I think the Patriots are FAR more hated as well.
Is it fair to say the Pats maybe got a lesser penalty from the league? yea.
But to say the media didn't put any hate on them and they didn't get the same hate from the NFL world is completely false.

The baseball media is a bunch of pussies and has had an axe to grind with the Astros for a while now (see the contrived "scandal" last year with a female reporter being "mistreated"). Plus the Stros aren't a blueblood.

Mostly east coast liberal media and a few LA based guys. These are the same people crying about climate change and voting for socialists to run the country.

Weird thing to say considering this board is 90% making excuses for the Astros cheating

And you are right. With deflate gate it was the following as a majority "Ok, maybe Brady had the balls deflated. But it didnt have a material effect on the game and other Qbs are trying to do similar things."
With the astros, which is the same thing, not a true material effect and other teams are likely doing similar things, you get this:
"This is horrifying! Appalling! Think of the children!"
