The 9-6 game wasn't even as exciting as a 3-2 soccer game.

What? Defensive struggles are the best football games to watch. Shootouts with no defense are overrated.

Way to take two extremes. Nobody likes defenseless shoot-outs and nobody likes offense-less scrums.

There is a difference between great defensive struggle and what occurred in that 9-6 game. That was two teams afraid to lose and everyone who isn't a fan of either team saw it that way. Running up the gut on every play with the occasional screen or a safe flare pass out of the backfield isn't exciting and doesn't demand the '85 Bears to stop.

Really now?

Seemed to work on Oregon pretty well last year..That fricking D was ready to quit after 3 Quarters, well they pretty much did..

Well Oregon didn't seem to have any problems slowing down Cam Newton. Something LSU/Bama couldn't do.

In 2011 Oregon held LSU to 273 yards of total offense. The only team LSU played all year that held LSU to less was Bama....which believe it or not was only 30 yards less. Yes....that means Oregon gave up less yards than the 7 other SEC teams that LSU played.

LSU started possession 3 times inside Oregon 20 due to turnovers. Looked bad for the defense but clearly they didn't do nearly as bad as every SEC defense did against LSU aside from the eventual National Champs.

So what does that say when the last 2 times Oregon has played an SEC team their defense managed to perform better against that team than the entire conference did?

Oregon shut down Cam Newton like no SEC could.
Oregon slowed down LSU's offense better than 7 other SEC teams did.

I'm not sure I would call 265 yards passing and 64 rushing en route to a national championship win, "slowing down," Cam Newtown.

For Cam its considered "slowing down" realizing what he did to those SEC defenses in 2010.

Certainly no worse than Bama where Newton had 255 yards and 4 Tds that year.

So it's disingenuous to say that conservative offense between two teams don't play a factor in these 9-6 "great defensive battles."

No one is saying those two teams didn't have great defensive teams but the game they played on offense was pathetic, greatly helped the defensive stats and played into the public's apathy toward the game.

Way to change the subject. We weren't talking about the game result. It was about Oregon's defense in those games.

I agree that the game last year would have been boring to most non SEC fans. It seems like they really don't care about defense AT ALL. Myself and most other SEC fans honestly enjoy watching our teams' defenses play as much or more than they're offenses. For that reason last years game wasn't boring...it might have been the most thrilling game I'v ever seen.
