I feel bad for Dirk who has done everything for that franchise only to get shite on this past year and the upcoming year.

At least he got his ring.

There are always cheap teams willing to dump players.
no one thatll make a difference. he'll either be overpaid, past his prime, or both.

as a rockets fan and mavericks hater, i'd rather be where yall are than we are. a guy in dirk who still has many years in this league b/c of his style of play, lots of cap space with an owner whos always been over the cap- so you know hes willing to spend. it was a bump in the road they didnt cash in any big ticket FAs, but it was better to pass than to get desperate and overpay.

some of you spoiled mavs fans sound so pathetic fantasizing about tyson chandler and the 2011 team-- like they were some magical team capable of winning the next 14 NBA finals. they played great, got hot, and cashed it in, but dirk/kidd/chandler/matrix was hardly the young kobe/shaq-in-his-prime foundation for titles.

sounds like you maverick fans would rather sign some average players to max deals so yall would feel better about yourselves then to get the right guys and build around stars-- even if it takes a year or so. im sure heat fans were pissed they spent a year or 2 of dwyane wade's prime clearly cap space, but they got the right guys and are now a juggernaut. stop being desperate. take a step back so you can take 3 steps forward

Who could be dumped that make the Mavs a top 5 team? Elton Brand? Im asking against all hope that you have a good answer. I would love for them to be a top 5 seed. Right now, I dont see them making the playoffs.

There are always players out there not saying the Mavs will go after them but they are out there.

This is crazy talk. Dirk and Chandler are the perfect two to build around. Of course they are not Kobe and Shaq, but they would be finals contenders for the next 3 or so years with the right pieces around them. Dirk needs that athletic big man in the middle for multiple reasons. It keeps him from having to ever defend a big man and allows him to move more to the perimeter on offense.

And what do you mean the Mavs fans are spoiled and not patient about building a team. What the hell has been going on the last 15 years since Dirk has been there. Dirk does not have "many years" left in the league at his prime. You know he is 34 right?

I certainly dont want them to sign max contracts to some half arse players to make me feel better. I just dont think you should put all of your eggs in the free agent basket when we can never get a top notch free agent to come here. To me, Deron Williams wouldnt have made us any better of a team than if they would have kept Chandler.

We dont have time to BUILD a team when Dirk only has 3 or 4 years left in his prime. It doesnt just take "a year or so" to build a team. It is not that easy to get a player of that caliber to Dallas. Hell, use Houston as an example. We are the same, we just got lucky enough to draft the big German. The difference is that Dallas has an owner who will spend. But who cares if FA dont want to come here. THis is not LA or MIA where all the free agent superstars want to come.

If you read some of the responses in this thread I think you'll see that most of the aggravation is over the fact that the Mavs employed this boom or bust strategy that guaranteed they would be in this spot if they couldn't convince DWill to take 1 less year and 25 million dollars. That's an absurd risk to take.

Honestly until he signed elsewhere I figured they had an illegal agreement with Williams' agent or something, because otherwise why put yourself in this position.

The Mavericks, like most teams, knew there was only 1 FA worth Max money in this FA cycle. Nobody is begging them to overspend on fringe players that will really hamstring the franchise, they're bemoaning the fact that the fans have spent a year watching this situation come barreling down the tracks at us. So now they're waiting for the market to stabilize and will fill out the roster with 1 year contracts or 2 year with TO's and wait to play this game with Paul again next summer.

This. You can't toss all of your eggs into two pans with Williams and Howard. It almost seems like Cuban was so sure in himself that he didn't even formulate a plan to A.)How to better entice Deron to Dallas and B.) Rebound if they missed out on them both.

If he was smart, he wouldn't try doing the same plan next offseason with Paul and when Howard becomes a free agent (unless a trade happens)

Should have traded the scrub before it was confirmed that he sucked a huge cock.

I agree he has been a disappointment, but I have a feeling he could turn it around this year. Ok, I might be blinded by my love for the Mavs...but think about it.

This is the first year in his career he will be able to train over the summer. This will be the first regular season where he won't be crowded out of the rotation by veterans. It may not be likely that he becomes a reliable player, but it is possible.

Roddy B is terrible. I'm very much over that experiment. He's a terrible version of Leandro Barbosa, who isn't any good either.
