Tyson Fury thought he'd put the saga with Deontay Wilder behind him when a third fight between the two failed to materialize through the second half of 2020. On Monday, an arbitrator ruled Fury has until Sept. 15 to grant Wilder his contractually guaranteed rematch. The news coming just days after Fury said his long awaited battle with Anthony Joshua to unify the four recognized heavyweight world titles was set for Aug. 14 in Saudi Arabia.

The news, first reported by Chris McKenna and confirmed by Mike Coppinger, puts one of the most anticipated fights of the era in jeopardy. Top Rank's Bob Arum called the decision "preposterous" in speaking with Sports Illustrated's Chris Mannix. Arum said that the plan is to go forward with the Joshua fight in August and to sell Wilder on facing the winner in November or December.

Gets arse beat twice and gets to face the winner without beating anyone. The Democrat way.

So Wilder gets a massive payday (10Mish) to wait out the fight. Plus he can schedule a tune up fight and bank even more money. Then he gets a Super fight against the Undisputed HW Champ.. it is a sweet deal. But he could be waiting a long time and he is not young. Plus if Fury-Joshua is a great fight, there will be a big push for a rematch. I can understand him wanting his fight sooner..

Wilder is dumb. Let Joshua fight Fury then demand to fight the winner for a huge payday.

If it's Joshua maybe you can win. If it's Fury you get beat up again and get a big payday. Either way you win.

In this scenario you aren't going to sell big because people want to see the other two guys and had you waited you could face one, maybe get lucky and get the unified title.

This decision gives him the leverage to do that.

If he's smart this is what he does. Uses the ruling as leverage to ensure they Fury-Joshua don't get a rematch and he can get a tune-up then fight fight winner for the unified title in a supermatch.

This is dumb. Wilder got beat twice in a row, and the second wasn’t close AT ALL why the hell should he get a rematch. I mean you usually see a 3 fight series when it’s 1 a piece. Dumb. Boxing sucking even more by the day.

It's not dumb. This ensures him a big payout to wait, plus a huge paycheck down the line to fight the winner. This is just smart business..

Because that is what both men agreed to beforehand.

So Fury is now saying that he will not pay Wilder and will fight him next. That pushes back Joshua. So he is costing both of them (Fury and Joshua) the massive pay day to fight in Saudi (50M+ each). Joshua is going to loss a shite ton of money and have to wait until the end of the year, at the earliest. This is at least the second time he got screwed on a major bout for unification.

Fury should have given Wilder his match months ago and all would be good. He just made a huge mistake and it is costing him (and Joshua) a bunch of money..

This is ludicrous. So if Fury unifies the belt, Wilder only has to beat him once out of three tries to become undisputed heavyweight champ?

Fury builds the house and Wilder moves in based on one trick.
