The hate for Wake Forest is bad. If they go undefeated and left out of the Playoff, but Clemson goes undefeated in the same conference and would get in, plus be a #1 seed, it will ruin the integrity of the Playoff.

This is the shite that gets me. Wake is at #10 purely b/c of their name. If they had the exact same schedule and were called Miami or Florida State they'd be in the top 5.

Clemson has a resume of beating good teams previously. Wake would get slaughtered in the playoff.

It would be like asking the wheelchair Olympic basketball team to play a gold medal game against full body Team USA

Do you honestly think Michigan State is a better team than Alabama?

They'd get run off the field just like the last two times they've played.
Does it matter what we think?

What has happened on the field matters.

Alabama has a loss against an unranked team. Michigan State is undefeated.

Alabama would skull frick Michigan State.

You know it. I know it. The AP voters know it.

So why even play the games if recruiting rankings are basically all we care about?

This is why you should really consider making winning your conference + being ranked in the top 25 the criteria for making the playoffs, because Lord knows humans are biased as all hell

Well this is stupid.

UTSA is undefeated as well. Let's put them in the Top 5.

No it isn’t. UTSA has a garbage resume, Michigan State doesn’t.

You are just biased, or you believe we should be ranking teams on potential more so than actual results, which I’d argue probably stems from the same bias.

I don’t think that matters for ranking resumes, which is what we should be doing. Ranking potential is (a) too subjective and (b) unreliable

Do you think A&M would beat Bama? Do you think Bama would need a missed XP to beat a horrific Florida team?

You would laugh at the absurdity of that before the game, but both of those happened….Results need to matter, if not what is the point?

Well that's not how the voters think.

Obviously.

the first time someone uttered the word “eye test” it was inevitable that we’d basically pigeon hole the playoffs based on recruiting rankings and name brand, results on the field be damned, and to the detriment of the sport

yeah I view that as a problem, and a negative for the sport; because as I said at the start of this exchange: why even play the games if the results don’t seem to matter?

If they played again?

Absolutely.

I mean, it was 21-3 in the first quarter. Alabama took their foot off the gas after jumping out to a huge lead.

Alabama certainly has issues.

None of those issues would force a loss to a slow arse Big 10 team.

Ohio State? Sure.

Michigan State? Nope.

I believe Bama would beat MSU but would not rout them… it would be a decent game. BUT MSU has to make it there first……
