That's a great point.
Normally the jackasses at SI and ESPN tow the NFL line. But right now they are all pissed. Which to your point, means they are out for blood.

Yeah, that's what I've said too. They're gonna scapegoat someone. Deny and scapegoat and apologize. Weather the storm. If people don't stop watching, there's nothing that can be done.
Now the moment people stop watching, it affects the bottom line, he's dunzo. But that's not gonna happen.

but with this logic anybody could be commissioner.
I believe that to be completely false. Being the CEO of a $10 million company is difficult. A multi-BILLION dollar industry with 32 bosses? That is a very difficult position.

So why have a lying little fricking weasel at the head of your organization if you don't have to?
Arrogance (owners) and (eventually) apathy (fans/media). I just have alot of trouble believing that, in this 24 hour news cycle, this story somehow sticks around through the season. I don't buy it. The American public it too "ADD" for that to happen.
This board (full of saints fans) is not an accurate representation of the football watching market as a whole. They will get bored and move on when no action is taken.

I wonder who will be first. Nike? Under Armour? Coke? State Farm?
My guess would be State Farm since they pulled out of the Clippers during Sterling gate. Along with Kia, Virgin America, Car Max....it's not like Kia had a national ad campaign going with a star player from the Clippers at the time.

Roger's gonna be the scapegoat. Nobody's gonna believe whoever answered the phone didn't get the tape to him.

Why? Because people will continue to watch? Dude...I have no administrative experience at all but you could put me in charge of the NFL tomorrow and I guarantee you ratings won't go down for however many years I am in charge. It's a self-sustaining monster.

Enough women's groups can get together and press for his resignation.
I think he's come off so hypocritical through it, and bounty gate, that people can tell the NFL in other ways, hey look, we don't want his name associated with the league anymore.

Waiting until Robert Kraft stops publicly backing him before I say he's gone.

Yeah, there's nobody who had this tape that said, "Rog don't need this, I'll hang on to it."

You're making his point. Why replace Goodell if they'll continue to print money?
People will forget about this in a month's time.

It really does depend on how pissed off the mothers of America are; a wife or mother who is righteously furious is a terrifying thing and can make much misery for the fool that caused her fury. women can get his arse canned if they rise ip en masse. Ask Romney.

Not disagreeing with you, but...
State Farm, of all the companies I mentioned, taking a moral stance would just be beyond ironic considering their actions post-katrina/Rita/Ike. Their hands are much dirtier than the NFL's, but I guess that's business.
Now THAT was a PR nightmare. Particularly the Sugar Bowl Sponsorship when the dome opened back up. State Farm got through that without firing anyone b/c people never stopped purchasing their product. I think the same applies with the NFL.

Because the owners need someone in good standing with the NFLPA. If the union reps won't listen and negotiate with Goodell, he no longer has a purpose in life.

The idea that we can't do anything about this frustrates me. It's not that I disagree or agree...it's just frustrating.
That mentality is the reason we can't do anything about this. It's the reason most of us can afford to go to Super Bowls. This should be our sport. We're the fans. If enough people voice their opinions such that the negative PR overwhelms owners, he's gone. Goodell vs. anyone else is irrelevant. The owners are still going to make money.
