Do you have enough guys/girls on your team to rotate them through? Let everyone play. I did this with my 4th grade team, I would sub out every 3 minutes no matter the score.

I think if they all play then they may want to play harder for you (blocking) as you can reward them all with stickers etc on hats and then reward all for just coming to play, especially at that age if just 8 years old.

Your goal is not to win at that age but introduce the game and teach basics so they can move on.

Yall cut at that age?

My dad played tackle on two state championship teams. His line coach was an All American. I knew what a cut block was when I was like 4 and used it to my advantage because I was undersized.

We had them do zone blocking, and it was literally take a step upfield in direction and engage the first person to your right or left.

We had one really talented kid, so we told our backside guy to just wrestle the backside DE to the ground and we would tell our RB to go one direction then reverse it upfield off the backside block. scores alot fo TDS

You are absolutely right and that is what I'm trying to do. I want them to enjoy it and learn to play the right way. Not run a freaking center sneak.

We actually did this for our team a couple of weeks ago. Told them that if they shut out the other team on defense we'd buy them pizza. That other team didn't score a point on our defense.

Did this last game. Told them I would take them to Chuck E. Cheese in our town if we won. We won big. We don't have a Chuck E. Cheese.

Whatever you do, don't have them use their shoulder. I used to get so mad at old
School dads who used to tell their kids to do that crap.

8 year olds. 1) make sure they know each position by name 2) try and emphasize shadowing and using hands/feet 3) play to the whistle blows 4) make it fun so they play next year.

Work double teams on the tackles if its a 4 man front.. Kids that age struggle with getting to a linbacker so you'd rather them clear out one guy and have a lead blocker for the linbacker.. Usually at that age, teams will put their better players at defensive tackle so we'd essentially triple team the tackle on the playside with the center. The reason being is we'd teach the tackle to step towards the tackle in case the dt is going to the B gap.. If he wasn't there then he would move onto to a linebacker.. I usually put the better kids regardless of size at tackle, even rotating some at running back
