But the bombers were white Americans. The Tsarnaev brothers had lived in the United States for more than a decade. Dzhokhar was a U.S. citizen. Tamerlan was a legal permanent resident in the process of applying for citizenship. And as countless commentators have noted, the Tsarnaevs hail from the Caucasus, and are therefore, literally, “Caucasian.” You can’t get whiter than that.

The olympics are just a big kick back to the fat cat douchy euros that broker the deal. Putin lines some pockets. The security will be tight everywhere, except for maybe the dude's figure skating venue. That's where shite might go down.

There's little doubt that there will be attempts.

It's up to Russian security to prevent anything from happening. I don't think they can given the distances between the events. It'll make it harder for the terrorists to meld into the crowds but it sure stretches man power thin.

Oh wow apparently the US Military will be on standby, this proves we have no faith Moscow can prevent an attack.

Amid the recent security and terrorist concerns involving the Sochi Olympics, the U.S. is preparing a contingency plan to keep American athletes and officials safe.

The U.S. is looking into contingency plans as security at the Sochi Olympics is a growing concern.

The U.S. military will have warships and several aircraft on standby during the Games, CNN reports, citing a U.S. official with knowledge of the plans, adding that Moscow would first need to ask for help before any American action was taken.

Still, the ships are in place "if something happens like a major terrorist attack and we need to get Americans out," the official told CNN.

I would bet that's just a CYA precaution since the Russians won't let us put guys on the ground. JSOC usually has guys on the ground at the olympics but putin ain't letting our guys in. I bet we still have a good covert presence doe.

Yep, just seems like a strange location for the winter olympics. I thought Vancouver was marginal.

There was a great SI article last year on the incredible corruption surrounding the Olympics in Sochi. I am on mobile but you can find it in the SI vault

It is fascinating

Pretty much the same thing as the World Cup in Qatar. It's a giant kickback fest

It's as disgusting as any Olympic selection. And like religion, the masses will continue to consume and perpetuate the corrupt systems in place.

Read THIS today about Sochi.

What a corrupt shithole.

I know it's en vogue around these parts to like Putin because he trolls Obama, but that guy is bad news. I, too, have a bad feeling that something bad is going to happen. And not in a "fake snow screws up the skiing events" kind of way.

I hope I am wrong.

The summer games are 100x bigger and it was before anyone even thought about terrorism.

There's never been a lead up to any games like there has been with this one. Not even SLC had this many concerns.

No doubt.

I just take issue with posters who are quick to point out how Russia can't make the Olympics safe, as if the US is untouchable in that respect.
