Also doesn't help when you have zero pocket presence and struggle to call plays in the huddle.

True

Although I seem to remember that one of the coaches (Cable maybe?) would literally call the same play 3 times in a row even after it didn't work on either first or second down.

The coaching and management of that franchise certainly didn't benefit him.

Would he have succeeded somewhere else? Pretty much impossible to know but I would think that he would have had a better chance.

Face it, everyone.... there is a collective blackballing of JR by the NFL. He got a tryout with the Bears so the league can point to it and say, "See? He had every chance."

Got proof of this? Don't really buy the conspiracy theory. If he has the talent and the intangibles and team sees some real upside someone will give him a chance. If not then he is done. No team is above signing someone for the chance of an advantage.

I don't have many personal athlete stories but I do have one about JR. When he was at LSU his last year in the midst of all his hype I took my kids to a Halloween event at the Pmac. The LSU FB players were going to be there handing out candy. My son who was five at the time was excited to see JR. We approached the area where he was but he was over to the side shooting hoops and would not come over to meet the kids. The kids were screaming for him to come over and he just ignored them and kept shooting hoops. From that point on I thought he was the biggest d-bag. However, I have always hoped for him to get a second chance if he truly put in the effort.

I love both of them fwiw. Tyrann and Jamarcus both seem humbled and both were great players for LSU.

Reality says helloooooooo

Flynn couldn't keep up with the porous defenses, and still got LSU 3 OTs

Against Auburn, last play of the game, JR throws the completion at the 7 yd line. WTF???? That's JJ level of stupid!

Against Fla, the QB fumbles on the goal line. That's almost unheard of.

actually, my reality is intact.

Jacob Hester couldn't keep his hands on a crucial catch(or get one more yard by looking to evade the defender in the endzone before the fumble) The defense fell for a dumb jump pass. A muffed punt cost us. All you remember is a fumble(like the typical irrational fan). Russell had thrown for 2 TDs (one called back for a bad block). The first pick he threw was caused by the WR stopping short and leaping for the ball instead running(I concede it could've been overthrown-but it's the WR job to go get that ball). The second one Bowe got the ball knocked out. Bowe let the last one go right through his hands Doucet fumble the kicked off for a safety. Statistically, the game looks much worse for Russell than the actual reality of the game.

I was at that game in Auburn. The oline sucked, we couldn't run and the refs screwed us. Especially the most crucial play in the game(which was to the guy furthest down the field btw) a poor interpretation of pass interference. The final pass was to the most open guy when the middle of the field was covered and Doucet had plenty of ability to score.

What a surprise, comparing our two most recent black QBs to one another and calling one-who outplayed Flynn his entire time at LSU, stupid.

Flynn costs us both the Arkansas game(couldn't hit the broadside of a barn in the first half) and the Kentucky game(losing to UK is pathetic). We backed into a BCS game. Russell would have won both those games, and possibly a Heisman finalist.

Was he a perfect QB here? frick no, but the losses on the road in 06 can not be blamed entirely on him(especially AU). The FLA game is a team not showing up on a big stage, but is irrelevant. We didn't get the chance for a rematch because we got screwed on the Plains, despite beating (division champ) Arkansas on the road(where we always struggle). If that would have happened, we are right there in the title hunt.

The 07 team had all the breaks the 06 team lacked, yet Flynn is lionized as some conquering hero who overcame some great injustice by sitting behind Russell.

FTR, like all LSU players(notable exceptions of course) I always cheer for Flynn.

And, lest we forget, after being under center for both losses, Flynn wasn't under center (he was hurt) for the game the propelled LSU from #7 up to #2 in the polls and garnering the spot in the BCSNCG. I loved Flynn while at LSU, and one of the coolest things I have for my oldest son is a little mini helmet I had signed by both JaMarcus & Flynn their freshman year at LSU on Fan Day complete with photos of them with my then year old son. The guy stuck with his early commitment to LSU even while we recruited that guy that ended up at Ole Miss and then when we landed Russell...and stuck with LSU despite TWO coaching staffs feeling he was clearly the #2 guy by their awarding of playing time. But the level at which people overstate his 2007 year while shitting on JR's 2006 year is truly incredible.
