@TJQuinnESPN: BREAKING: Angels employee tells DEA about extensive opioid use with Tyler Skaggs, that he told two team officials about Skaggs' abuse, and named other players as having used opioids, sources tell OTL. LINK

A public relations employee for the Los Angeles Angels told federal investigators that he provided oxycodone to Tyler Skaggs and abused it with him for years, and that two team officials were told about Skaggs' drug use long before his death, according to two sources familiar with the investigation.
Eric Kay, the Angels' director of communications, also gave U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration agents the names of five other players who he believed were using opiates while they were Angels, the sources said.
Kay told investigators he illegally obtained six oxycodone pills and gave three to Skaggs a day or two before the team left California for the road trip to Texas, according to the two sources. Kay told DEA agents he does not think the pills he obtained for Skaggs were the same ones the pitcher took the day he died because Skaggs typically would ingest the pills immediately after receiving them from Kay, the sources said. Skaggs also texted Kay the day the team left for Texas seeking more oxycodone, a request Kay told investigators he was unable to fulfill, the sources said.

lord i remember the original thread where OD (likely on opiates) or suicide were clearly the 2 options and people were just like "NAW BRUH"
*ETA: i'm not celebrating his OD, just calling out people who acted like experts on opiate addiction when they were CLEARLY wrong

yep... tried telling them... some where all like "there's no way a professional athlete could do their job if they were opiate addicts".... there are many, many high functioning addicts in this world.... i used to be one, so i have a little knowledge on the subject...

Kay was probably supplying Skaggs with legit Oxy. Skaggs got desperate when he got to Texas, and scored pills through a shady hookup. Those pills were fake and laced with Fentanyl.

What a shame. Now there will be lawsuits galore. Reminds me of the Hancock accident. Though the circumstances were different.

Congrats on celebrating someones addiction that others believed was not an addiction

This is part of the problem with addiction stigma.Simply pointing out Skagg is an addict is not " celebratikng:" or mocking him.
Hiding someones addiction or defending an addict is not helping them.
