When you are talking about ratings and tv contracts and the like, then yes, comparing it to other sports is relevant.

That's another reason why it won't succeed. The best brand of soccer will be hard to show live in the US,

the only hard matches to watch are the ones that come on at 1245 here 745 est

1.3 million watched the Man U/Man City match this past fall. Not bad considering the game was probably Sunday morning.

There will always be the hardcore fans. Especially for a niche sport.

UFC on regular cable seems to max out at about the same number.

That's because all of the hardcore fans watch, but they can't break through.

Not really when the only reason TV contracts were brought up in the first place was because someone actually believed no soccer league had a TV deal at all.

NBC pays $83 million dollars per year for the EPL.

it was a steal the EPL won't let the rights go so cheap this time esp with how much other countries pay for it like the Asian markets.

They just signed a deal with Sky in the UK that dwarfs the NFL deals from FOX/CBS.

quote:

Sky, meanwhile, said it will pay £1.392bn per year, or £11.07m per match, for the right to broadcast 126 live matches, 10 more than currently. and the maximum Sky was allowed to bid for under the auction rules.

And you compared a deal that is in it's final year where they set 4 new veiwing records in 1 season vs. a brand new deal

You sound like a fool.

Saturday morning cartoons have a higher viewership than that EPL game on NBC.

As far as American Football, you can't tell me that on Sunday, you can sit on your couch and watch more than 2 NFL games without going out of your way.

You believe your own bullshite.

Yes I can there are 5 games a week show on tv and redzone.

Sky shows the 1pm game and 4:15 game and thursday night game. Another channel shows sunday night football that night and then monday night football is on espn/bt.

Also there is nfl game pass which gives you every game just like sunday ticket I have not missed a redskins game since moving to england.

5 games a week and live on Sunday are not the same thing. And NFL red zone is a package that you have to pay for. As far as the Redskns, I bet you probably have to go somewhere and convince a bar to put the game on.

So when he proves you wrong after this post are you just going to change your nebulous definition of "going out of your way" again?

ETA: And the situation he described is almost exactly what anyone in the US that has basic cable would get. So you can't say it's some inferior situation, other than the time zones maybe.

Reading clearly isn't your strong point

I get at least 3 games live on sunday and redzone on sky. Sometimes sky shows 2 games at once. I get sunday and monday night football live.

Sky Sports has won the rights to the Monday Night Football as part of a new five-year agreement for even more live American Football from the NFL.

From 2015, Sky Sports viewers will be able to enjoy over 80 live fixtures a season, including up to five games each week of the regular season, the play-offs and Super Bowl.

Sky Sports’ coverage will also include all matches from the NFL’s International Series as teams travel to the UK for regular-season match-ups, which has seen sell-out games at Wembley since 2007.

Only sky 1 and 2 showed NFL games when I was there 2 yrs ago (Italy).

Did you have to spend any time or moneygetting your Redskins game pass?

Eta.. It was actually just sky 1. 2 had to be bought. And it was just one game.

They paid 3x more for the EPL than they did with the previous contract. It wasn't a "steal". They paid the going rate.

ESPN pays $1.9 billion per year just for Monday Night Football.

That's like $118.7 million per game.

And that's just ESPN.

CBS, FOX, and NBC pay about $1 billion each per year.

After you include DirecTV and others, the NFL is making over $7 billion per year in TV deals.

you have to consider the markets with that which local american ones are bigger than uk ones

32 teams vs 20 when splitting up the money that and we are talking dollars vs pounds.

The NFL deal overall deal wins

1.392 billion pounds = 2.172 billion dollars. Divided by 20 teams = $108.6 million per team.

7 billion dollars divided by 32 teams = $218.8 million per team.

All this tells me is that French kids don't grow up playing football and idolizing football players. That's not news.
