The premise was that he's the second most talented player ever (over Bonds implicitly), and that it's not even close. That's a hell of a burden of proof, especially with all the young talent in the league. I'm not saying Correa will even match him, but it seems like yet another dumb superlative.

With or without steroids, Rodriguez and Bonds are two of the best players to ever play the game.

Bonds, Rodriguez, and Griffey are the three most all-around talented players of the last 30 years?

Swap out Griffey with Correa and you have a list

I guess you could count Trout and Harper in that list, but I just don't think of them yet because they've only played a few seasons. But as far as pure talent, they're certainly way up there.

Especially Trout with his speed and defense.

Correa is not even in the same universe as arid.

.358 36 Hr as a 20 yr old

.279 22 hr just is meh by comparison. Correa will be a top 3 ss in MLB but not a top 3 player. He will eventually move to third and be a cal Ripken type without the iron man streak.

Which is still incredible

Position players maybe. Pedro put one of the GOAT seasons during the steroid era.

A-Rod's OPS was 1.045 when he was 20.

ETA: To be fair, A-Rod played about 45 more games that season, but still.

Annualize it to 162 games for Correa (which gives him a slight unfair advantage), and his HRs = 36. For the AVG., sure, but it was his rookie year, and it was A-Rod's 3rd season playing (first full season though). And this was in a different pitching and drug testing era.

I'm a huge Astros homer, but I'm not necessarily saying he's quite on the same level. Just think the fact that we have a guy that could have 90% the career that A-Rod have in the league right meow makes the claim a bit far-fetched.

Pitchers were just as dominant if not more so during the roid era:
Pedro
Maddux
The big unit
Clemens

Some pretty dominant and intimidating pitchers.

Also, like I said---he will be a cal Ripken type player. A guy who will hit between .270 and .280 with 30 bombs who will outgrow the ss position. That's an awesome career. But he won't be on a rod's level

Did you miss the part of the same post you're(got it right this time) referencing where I said maybe not 50 plus Homers but 40 plus with gg defense? That is fairly close with the potential to duplicate it in his best year. Will he? Probably not but for a guy many believe will hit 40 plus and play gg defense in his prime years, it's not a stretch to say he has the potential.

And BTW I realize it's tough to hit 57 bombs in a season. However, I believe he will be by far the best player in the game during his prime. On a side note, I believe that if you put arod amd Correa in prime years during same time frame, Correa would put up similar numbers.

Considering his prime will somewhat overlap with Trout, and very much overlap with Harper, I'd say him being "by far" the best player in the game is, again, a stretch.

I think Correa is an absolute stud (one of the top 5 assets in baseball), but I doubt he will ever play GG defense at short (he may even have to move to 3B) or be "by far" the best player in the game, just because there is so much young talent in baseball right now. Harper and Trout aren't even 25 yet.

Pedro had a unbelievable 7 year run during peak roid.

97- 1.90 era
98- 2.89 era
99- 2.07 era
00- 1.74 era
01- 2.39 era
02- 2.26 era
03- 2.22 era

and it is not like he sucked after 03 or before 97

I am all on the Correa hype train but this thread is getting kinda stupid. Let him play his first full year in the bigs

Easily the second most talented baseball player of all-time after Mickey Mantle. I doubt we'll ever see another shortstop hit 57 HRs and play Gold Glove-caliber defense again. A-Rod truly was a once in a lifetime talent. He will be greatly missed.

You can be the Astros fan to pull it back to reality.
