There's been some chatter about him not playing hard, but I don't think that's the case. Just a guy who may be disinterested on a really shitty team.

I think this is a great pickup given what you gave up for them. Ownership stepped up and put the money in the team to take on the contract.

That's always been the beef with him.

I don't think he'll win any hustle awards, but he's a good player.

Put him at DH where he won't see the field

Why? He is terrible at that too.

+wRC by year:
2013: 93
2012: 89
2011: 87

ETA: To avoid confusion, these are Delmon Young's stats, not Rios'.

Plus we have a gimpy Berkman coming back soon. Even as a gimp, he's better than Delmon Young.

Great, great trade for the Rangers. It also means they don't overpay for Cruz in FA this offseason.

It is hard to go to work for a crappy employer, no matter what career. And Rios has been stuck on awful teams with no playoff chances (Toronto and White Sox). Maybe being on a team that is in the playoff hunt will spark the dormant interest.

Wasn't expecting this deal to go through at all.

Pretty damn good job for JD so far through trades. Yes he gave up a lot for Garza, but the rotation is now a top 5-10 rotation in the Majors. And now he got Rios for pretty much nothing, who is basically a faster right handed David Murphy, except Rios is having a decent year. Not too bad at all.

I still expect JD to go after a big time outfield bat this offseason.

Not to mention, his numbers will likely improve getting out of pitchers ballparks like Toronto and Chicago

Cellular Field is considered a hitters park... and I think Toronto is too.

Compared to Arlington at this time, only Colorado is probably higher

US Cellular currently has a higher HR rate. Of course, that's not entirely dependent on ballpark dimensions, weather and altitude.

According to this, Cellular is 15th and Arlington is 18th.

The Rangers pitching has obviously been a huge factor in this, but for Cellular to be 15th with that bad of an offense playing there, it's fairly hitters friendly. Arlington really just allows a lot of HRs, but it also is not a good park for triples.

Fenway, Toronto, Colorado, Detroit, Miller Park

Top 5 hitting ball parks this year.

You are right. While historically Arlington has been a great place to hit, but with the improvement of the Rangers pitching, that's no longer the case.

I've never really relied on those stats because those number are affected by a lot of variables that don't even count on the field itself, i.e. the hitting and pitching of the home team, the opponents they face, etc.

But in the summer at this point, I would think that Arlington is way up there.

It's still good at showing what a park gives up. Cellular is a lot like Arlington, in that it does not give up triples or doubles, but it does allow the long ball.

If you look at Fenway, it has a very high double and triple factor but a low HR factor, which Fenway is known for.

I live up here and I lived in Dallas for 15 years. I feel like the ball flies out of the Cell in June - August as well as any other park I've seen. But in April, May and September it doesn't.
