Aikman is to the cowboys what Dorsey is to Miami.

1994 Cowboys wins Super Bowl
Aikman 13 TD 12 Int
1996 Cowboys win Super Bowl
Aikman 12 TD 13 Int
How is he in the hall of fame? He was terrible.

The year he got MVP votes the stats are hilarious.
3100 yds 15 TDs and 6 Ints and he was 5th in voting. Marcus Allen was 6th with 764 rushing yards. He scored 15 TDs but he was basically a TD vulture and averaged 3.7 ypc.

but the next two QBs receiving the most votes were
Moon 21 TDS 21 Ints
Simms 15 Tds and 9 Ints

The MVP for the cowboys was the Oline. They made Smith, Aikman and Irving....they were incredible.

He handed the ball off to Emmitt Smith and got the ball to Michael Irvin. That's all that mattered.
Oh and he had the best offensive and defensive line in football.
Which is why I laugh when people downplay John Elway because he lost those Super Bowls. He DRAGGED a mediocre Broncos team to 3 Super Bowls. Once he got what Aikman had on the Cowboys, Elway won two Super Bowls in a row.

The Aikman hate is absurd. He was a stud and tough as nails. He got his arse beaten up regularly the first year or two and never shied away from hits. He has the concussions to prove it.
His above average arm was extremely accurate and he could make every throw. I picked a random year (1993). He led in completion percentage (69.1) and was second behind Young in QB rating (2nd behind Young in 1992 also). Most teams were run-first then. Few QBs put up the crazy numbers we see these days.
I don't even like the Cowboys, but he was the first overall pick and first ballot HOFer for a reason. 6 straight Pro Bowls and his QB rating in his three Super Bowls is a remarkable 111.9. Yes, his team was awesome for five years. So was Montana's. So was Young's. So were Bradshaw's, Staubach's and Warner's.
His last few years were not good. I will agree that he was not able to drag bad teams along like Elway (my personal favorite QB if I was starting a team). Jimmy Johnson said Aikman could have led the league in passing if he'd wanted him to.

That doesn't make you a HOFer. Otherwise, David Carr is a 1st ballot HOFer.

False. 1994 ended with SB 29, a 49ers win.

False. 1996 ended with SB 31, a Packers win.
Dallas won it all in 1992. Aikman was 3rd in TDs (23), 5th in yards (3445), and 3rd in QBR.
Dallas won it all in 1993. Aikman only threw for 3TDs, but also only had 6 INTs, 2nd lowest % in the league amongst starters.
Dallas won it all in 1995. Aikman threw for 16 TDs against 7 picks. Again, nothing fantastic, but a minuscule INT % for the time.
Idiots who think the NFL in 2022 is anything close to what it was in 1995 will make these comparisons and wonder why some guys are in the HoF.

You are correct, but when you are the QB of that team and win 3 Super Bowls, you get in the Hall of Fame. Bradshaw had Franco, Swann, Stallworth, and a legendary defense. Same situation.
Fact is, you don’t punish guys like that when considering for the HoF. It’s not their fault the GMs were great at what they did.

Also agree. Elway was an amazing QB. The disparity between the NFC and AFC at the time was insane. Hell, the NFC East had 3 different teams win SBs in 3 consecutive seasons.

The NFC won 13 straight Super Bowls from 1984-1996.
Everyone knew every year the NFC Title game was the real Super Bowl, especially those Niner-Cowboy matchups.

And look at the blowouts.
49ers 38, Dolphins 16
Bears 46, Patriots 10
Giants 39, Broncos 20
Redskins 42, Broncos 10
49ers 55, Broncos 10
Redskins 37, Bills 24 (24-0 in the 3rd and 34-10 in the 4th)
Cowboys 52, Bills 17
Cowboys 30, Bills 13
49ers 49, Chargers 26
I mean, Dallas fricked around for a half and beat Buffalo handily. Washington scored 35 in a quarter against Denver. The Bengals-Niners was a classic, as was New York and Buffalo. Otherwise, they were duds until Dallas-Pittsburgh in 30 and Green Bay-NE in 31, and those weren’t exactly going down to the gun.

Oh and who broke the NFC streak, once they built him an NFC team?
Apropos...John Elway.

Elway played in 9 playoff games over those three runs to the Super Bowl. He completed 50% of his passes, threw 12 interceptions, and had passer rating below 80 in those nine games. That’s not exactly dragging a team due to his stellar individual performances.
Plus, only one of the nine games was on the road. Five were at home, plus the three neutral site SBs. The only thing anyone remembers about any of those nine games is a 5 minute 4th quarter drive to tie the game in Cleveland.
Elway had the better career, and overall is a better QB than Aikman. However, don’t use the playoffs as an example. Aikman is a better playoff QB than Elway by nearly every single metric.

Aikman is as overrated a quarterback as he is an announcer. He had the audacity to whine that FOX wasn’t going to double his salary and let him walk to ESPN. Of the five networks’ top analysts, he’s by far the worst and that factors in that Herbstreit hasn’t called less than a handful of regular-season NFL games.
As a quarterback, he was good but not great. He was carried by Emmitt Smith, Michael Irvin and a great offensive line.
