I've thought all along that Penn State should completely rebrand its athletic program. Different colors, uniforms, logo, etc. and maybe even a different nickname. Then there wouldn't be a visual association with Paterno.

I'm glad they at least made the necessary changes, and I like O'Brien as coach.
I still acknowledge what happened but at least I see them going in the right direction.

Their alumni and fanbase, those who enabled Sandusky and defend Paterno today are still there. frick PSU.

I've thought this as well, too extreme though I guess.

Very interesting thought.
When I think of Penn St, I don't necessarily blame the entire university, or all of the players and such. But I definitely think of Joe Paterno and the slimeball POS that he was to cover-up what Jerry Sandusky was doing (words can't even describe what he is). No doubt that Joe Pa was untouchable at that univeristy, and what he says was the law, and he chose to hide Sandusky, and didn't even run him out of town.

I thought the mob mentality by most towards Penn State was fricking pathetic.
When fans and students are having vigils for Joe Pa what do you expect. I thought having vigils for a guy who CLEARLY didn't do enough was bullshite

The mob had its pitchforks out prior to the vigils.

It's amazing how one guy can bring a program and university to its knees
I keep thinking universities will see the light and deal with these things when they are brought to light but the Rutgers situation just goes to show lessons still have not been learned.

When the story came out it was known the JoePa was told about the shower incident....at least that is what i recall.
Personally i am glad people reacted in such disgust. How sad would it be if they didn't want justice for the kids then and now.

it was administratively systemic...for more than a decade.
pitchforks are warranted.

pretty sure that came out a few days later

what do you currently think of penn state
Same. Good university. I never thought poorly of the university as a whole for what Sandusky did.
And I still think PSU should bitch slap the NCAA with and antitrust lawsuit. They would win and possibly hundreds of millions considering antitrust violation = triple damages award by law.

I still think JoePa was responsible for kids getting molested and wished he had to face the music.

I immediately think of Sandusky and Pedo U when I hear about Penn State. Doubt they're getting many out of state kids to come there anymore.

Please don't put those two situations in the same boat. One involved college ages men that had zero physical harm done to them. Another involved kids that were assaulted in the worst possible way.

So do I. I also think of a fanbase blindly defending an enabler.

Assuming you're an LSU fan/alum, it's easy to say you'd openly strike out against the LSU athletic dept if something like this happens.. but you never know until you're confronted with something like this and it becomes reality.

Well, I wouldn't know. I had cut off my TV by then.
I'm not a fan of the media driving a story into the ground. I know it was a huge story but I just can't sit there for a few days and continue to listen to recycled babble from ESPN.
Plus you had endless threads about it on here. Everyone wanted to be a message board hero on the matter. You couldn't tell them anything because they knew EVERYTHING about the situation... you know?
and there were some people who were just going to enjoy Penn State's anguish no matter what. If the folks up there had just stayed inside the house and kept quiet, you probably would just have idiots on here talking about how they didn't care at all. Or they would laugh at them for "having their head in the sand".
what exactly were the folks up there supposed to do? They were going to get criticized one way or another...

The penalties they got represents how fricked up the world is. The "Yes lets penalize a bunch of innocent people because I am uncomfortable" mentality
