Per [link=(ACCsports.com)]ACCsports.com[/link]

ACC presidents and chancellors will participate in a 7 a.m. teleconference Wednesday and then cast votes on the league’s expansion candidates, multiple sources told ACCSports.com, with Louisville the most likely school to receive an invitation. According to conference bylaws, an individual expansion candidate must receive at least 75 percent of the vote for approval. Multiple schools have expressed interest in joining the ACC, but sources say Louisville is the only one with a realist chance to get enough votes.

Wow. I was expecting uconn.
Posted on 11/27/12 at 10:41 pm to TulaneUVA
would prefer to have them in ACC over Maryland anyway

I have been expecting this for a while. The only question is if others will be invited (Cincy, UConn, and apparently Navy are all being considered).

BC, Clemson, and FSU are supposedly heavily fighting the UConn invite. They see Louisville as a better football option. BC knows how much UConn in the ACC would hurt their claims in New England.

If FSU and Clemson want Louisville, they will get Louisville.
Quid pro quo.
Quid pro quo.

Huh, damn. Thanks for breaking that. I figured it would be UConn as well, just had another thread discussing it
So why not UConn? I can see Boston College objecting, but I'd figure the new Big East additions would welcome UConn for the rivalry preservation and I can't figure why the rest of the conference would give a damn either way.

what I really want to know is your relation to UVA I've gotten most everyone else's story on here but yours...

What does UConn bring that the 'Ville doesn't? Way better football, and way more profitable basketball.
The UConn add would basically tell FSU, Clemson, etc that the league isn't interested in even trying to produce a serious football product on the whole.

I completely buy the FSU/Clemson lobbying.
The ACC needs football schools. There are no football schools left so we have to go for the next closest thing, and I guess Louisville is about the closest thing there is to a football school.
And it seems like they have a well-financed atheltic department that will compete in many sports, which is always a plus.

Meh, that's debatable. UConn is 4-2 in their last 6 meetings with Louisville and beat them last weekend. They really aren't that different. You are definitely correct about the $$ involved in Louisville bball. Louisville fits in perfectly from a philosophical standpoint with Clemson and FSU. They will continue to invest heavily in athletics and be fine wiith mediocre academics. UConn is having a struggle with the academic side fighting the athletics department.

There's a rumor that UVA, UNC, and Wake are voting against Louisville. Everyone else is in favor.
Posted on 11/27/12 at 11:42 pm to Keys Open Doors
That would pair well with the stories of FSU, Clemson, and BC blocking Uconn.

If Clemson and FSU cared about playing good football teams in conference play they would have gone to the Big 12 last summer
I dont see how Louisville over Uconn would be that big of a deal to them.

Because Louisville has the same priorities. They dont want schools like UVa running the show and fricking up the program. They are in a conference with a bunch of schools that dont focus as much on athletics, and it is killing them because the quality of football blows.

It sucks that the two factions with the most power aren't seeing eye-to-eye (UNC/UVA and FSU/Clemson).
Hope this doesn't create a big divide, but Swofford is rushing this vote in. Either he thinks he can turn Wake or UNC/UVA could be open to adding Louisville.

Agree Louisville has the same same priorities as them.
However I find it odd the ACC would cave to Clemson and FSU and drop its high academic standards for Louisville, West Virginia was a much better fit last year
But things change i guess. Congrats to Louisville , they should move the Uk-UL game to the end of the season then.

They must be kicking themselves over that one. Big mistake not letting WVU in last year.

Way better football is just off, that would have been true about five years ago but both programs are mediocre now. None of the additions would be for football imo. More profitable basketball is a very good point (had no clue how much money the Ville brought in with basketball).
I have a feeling the clash is over academics, with Clemson and FSU backing the more profitable, less academically-inclined school (Louisville) and Virginia and UNC backing the academic school (UConn).
