MLB players endorsements aren't anywhere near what NBA players make in endorsements.

Eh product of the time. The last 7-10 years has had a renaissance of marketable nba stars. Griffey had a ton of endorsements video games, commercials, cleats etc. Trout doesn't seem to like it and Harper is polarizing but still getting some gigs. Judge is being primed to step into that role as the face of the MLB. Espn has certainly pushed it. I hate the Yankees and it's still annoying that even with them falling off as of late all you hear about is Judge but he's earned it and ultimately I think it's good for the sport.

Griffey was unique and cool yet he still didn't make what the top NBA players of his time made off the court/field. As for Judge, he is no Griffey personality wise and he looks like a monster. Harper is the most marketable guy in league yet he makes nothing compared to NBA equivalents. Cleat or bat contracts don't pay like NBA shoe contracts no matter who you are.

2016 the Top 20 earners in endorsement income
4 were basketball players
1 was a football player
The rest were tennis, soccer, and golf
Harper recently signed the largest endorsement deal ever by a baseball player (Jeter previously had it at 9m a year)
Jeter also only made 300m from endorsements in his career, compare that the James who signed a 10 year 300m deal with Nike

New CBA obviously changed things for the NBA but in 2000 A rod signed for $240 million.

Over 10 years

Harden just for 240 over 5 years

Harden is also more likely to play his sport longer

than a baseball player? MLB careers are longer on average than any other sport

Inflation adjusted Arods contract is equivalent to $340 million today. MLB teams have had significant increased income due to TV deals etc.

Completely disagree regarding career duration. The oldest NBA player active is Vince Carter at 40. There are multiple MLB players over the age of 40.

Like I said the new CBA has changed things but lets wait till Harper signs his contract and then reevaluate

Sure, but they'll also be wayyyyyy younger than Judge. Who knows how the careers turn out for the 3 guys in the OP, but betting on Judge to earn more than all three combined is ridiculous.

I'm banking on Judge being the face of the MLB for the next 10 years while playing for the Yankees. I think that will get him a ridiculous contract.

Rob Manfred hit the lottery with Judge. If the MLB plays this right baseball will go through a renaissance period like the last 10 years with the NBA.

Young marketable talent all over the place: Harper, Trout, Correa, Betts, Kershaw, Lindor, Hunter Greene. Then the crown jewel in NYC with Judge

NBA players are also getting their first and second large contract earlier... James Harden has already earned 90 million, he is set to earn another 228 million and then he will probably earn more smaller contracts. He will be what 32 when his current deal runs out so he could reasonably get another 100 million deal.

Stanton will be at 350 million when all is said and done.

Considering he won't be a FA until 2023 he won't get that contract.

I disagree and agree. No one knows these guys. Harper is the only guy with any marketable personality. The players won't become any more popular.

However the sport of baseball will continue to thrive because of its great TV deals so the players will continue to get paid.

Still is 10 million less per season than Harden. And harden will be elligable to make that contract again and possibly a 3rd time if his body holds up well. So it would be a 480/10 year deal for harden if the contracts worked the same. A cool extra 140 million for harden even with inflation

It is kind of amazing that NBA players are so marketable and MLB players aren't considering the variables.

Mainly because 1 player doesn't make a huge difference in MLB. You also have that player (say Harper) standing around most of the game or sitting in the dugout waiting to bat. MLB could promote pitchers the way the NFL promotes QB's I guess, but that would be it.
It is much easier to watch a basketball game for 2 and a half hours and see James, Westbrook, Harden, Durant, Curry, etc for 90% of the game vs watching MLB and seeing Harper for 50% of it.
