A look at College Football's top 10 coaches from 2006:

Seemed to be a general consensus back then.....
1) Pete Carroll
Then: 2 time national champion.
Now: Disgraced from cheating had to run to the NFL with his tail between his legs.
2) Urban Meyer
Then: Great coach.
Now: Had a meltdown; can't win without Tebow.
3) Bob Stoops
Then: Impressive season record, post season not so much.
Now: Same.
4) Jim Tressel
Then: Same as stoops
Now: Forced resignation due to cheating.
5) Rich Rod
Then: Offensive Genius
Now: Run out of Ann Arbor, can't coach at a bigtime program.
6) Steve Spurrier
Then: Classic retread.
Now: Getting better after a rocky start.
7) Paterno
Then: Old. Teams seemed to be falling apart.
Now: Old. Assistants have it under control.
8) Nick Saban
Then: Was just coming back from the NFL. Barely had a winning record his first year back.
Now: A force to be reckoned with, but still plays the end of games conservatively and loses from time to time.
9) Bobby Bowden
Then: Irrelevant. Seemed like a safe pick
Now: Irrelevant.
10 T) Mack Brown:
Then: Had just won the nat'l championship with VY.
Now: Is the program collapsing?
10 T) Greg Schiano:
Then: Overrated
Now: Laughing Stock
So of this guys list, which seems to have been par for the course and couldn't find any very good articles from reputable rags, out of the top 11:
2 were chased out of town for cheating
1 had a meltdown and had to quit for health reasons
2 were on the list just because they were old and had stood the test of time
1 was run out of town for being a fraud
That's over half the list! Point is, a lot of different factors go into a W-L record. If I were a Georgia fan I wouldn't be too quick to pull the trigger and fire the man.

As it looks, I would put Miles over any of them.

Can't unanimously put him over Bob Stoops without question..or Nick Saban.
But I also wouldn't trade Les for any of those 2 coaches

Yeah, Tressel's postseason record is so terrible. I guess by postseason, you are only accounting his NCG appearances, where he went 1-2. If you ask me, three NCG appearances is pretty fricking impressive in a span of seven years (obviously not his whole coaching career).

Miles over everyone but Saban and Stoops.

That was back then, of course - Now he's simply a disgraced coach that ruined the buckeye program.
I'd be mad as hell at Jim if I were a Buckeye fan.

Lets see him do this in the SEC.

OSU hasn't gone undeafeated in the Big 10 since 2006, the last 3 national champs out of the SEC have been undeafeated. I guess the SEC is just that much harder.

I'd leave Atlanta tonight and drive to Baton Rouge to help Les pack if it meant Saban coming back.

I'll take miles over "Big Game" Bob. Once your nickname for winning big games becomes ironic you slip down the standing in my opinion.
3-5 in BCS games
They lost three BCS games in a row before snapping that streak against mighty UConn this year.
And the only team they have to beat to get in is TExas, and sometimes not even then (2008)

Look, I think Tress was a decent coach, on the level with Stoops (which is not a bad thing) except he was cheating (which is a bad thing). All said, Ohio State would be the 3rd best team in the SEC West this year, and 4th best team in the SEC West most years (but yes, ahead of Arkansas)
There's nothing wrong with that. The non-ohio state fans' opinion is that Tress gambled the entire program on a lazy and selfish QB that didn't fit his system, and paid for it with his career.

Florida wasn't undefeated in 2008 but I get your point

Bob Stoops gets a lot of flack but the teams he lost to in his championship game appearances were ELITE squads.
'03 LSU
'04 USC
'08 Florida
I don't think he had the better team in any of those games.

You're right. The only criticism that he should get is for losing to Boise State and getting destroyed by West Virginia in two BCS bowls. He lost to better teams in the three national championship games.

I think Oklahoma 2008 was as good as that florida squad, but it wasn't coaching that lost that game; it was heart inside the 5
