That's not true at all. Not to say that New Orleans isn't fairly well known world wide or that it isn't a great city but Atlanta truly is a world class city.
The busiest Airport in the world is in Atlanta and it has 2 of the greatest universities in the world. You cannot sit here with a straight face and say more people have heard of New Orleans than Atlanta. Have you set foot on GA Tech or Emory campuses?
That doesn't even mention the amount of international businesses with headquarters in Atlanta.

So Atlanta has a huge busy airport that people dead traveling through.. and a major business hub that people also can’t wait to leave and go back home.
Sounds like ATL is very well known, but people hate going there.

You're entitled to think whatever you want. Atlanta is an international business hub and travel hub. I really cannot help you if think more people know about the puke smell of New Orleans than watched the 1996 Olympics, has had a Coke or flown on Delta.
