The US Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) announced on Friday it has handed a one-year ban to 80-year-old track cyclist Barbara Gicquel after a positive test for methyltestosterone.
USADA said Gicquel requested the doping control to validate an age group world record set on August 29, 2019 - the mark for the 500m time trial in the women 75-79 age group which Gicquel provisionally set at 44.062.
That result along with all of her results since August 29, 2015, have been nullified because Gicquel admitted using a medication containing methyltestosterone since March, 2005. She applied for a retroactive Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE) but USADA rejected her application.
USADA said Gicquel did not declare the medication on any of her previous doping control forms and they denied her TUE, "because the documentation she submitted did not establish that she had a medical condition that required the use of methyltestosterone and indicated that her use of the medication was likely to provide an additional athletic performance benefit beyond a return to a normal state of health," according to a press release

When we start testing 70+ year old people for doping we are taking shite to seriously. Let them take whatever they want, he’ll it’s amazing that they are doing anything athletic to begin with.

Again why is world record keeping that needs drug testing for 70+ year old people even a thing. You know how many drugs that age group takes. The whole thing is silly. Does anybody really care how fast an 80 year old women was on a bicycle? And do we really want to tell her a medication has disqualified her hard work? She is 80 years old, she might even have memory issues and doesn’t remember what medications she’s on

Grandma roid rage:
"I said only ONE mother fricking cookie Godammit."
and obligatory Scooby Doo reference
"I would have gotten away with it if not for those meddling kids."

She's been taking it for 15 years, info also available in the fricking OP. As to why, people who are good in athletics like to compete vs others. In time based sports you have constants like time and distance that allow you to compare yourself to competitors current, past, and even future. Believe it and or not, claiming an age group world record is prestigious to these folks who train hour upon hour. Way to out yourself at someone who wasn't elite, at any age.
