In the WS era (1903-Present)

The longest drought is 1922-1956.

There were 6 between 2009-2012 alone.

What the hell was going on?

Still correctable. Simply give the pitcher the last out and call it a day.

Modern sports science has led to better technique, control, and increased velocities.

there was also that stretch of years where pitchers were basically making glue out of the rosin bags to get some absurd movement on the pitches.

Fewer contact hitters. Overall BA is lower so mathematically it is more likely to do it now, while also more likely to allow five HRs.

it amazing that despite the expanded and re-expanded post season, there hasn't been one since 1956.

1956 max post season games (7)
2023 max post season games (53)

True enough. I don't know which is less satisfying, four or five total hits over nine innings or six home runs. I thought Roger Clemen's comment during the CWS that big league hitters can hit a 100 mph fastball with a pencil was pretty interesting.

More disciplined/better contact hitters back in the day.

Hitters with great eyes that would draw walks, steal bases (Henderson, Morgan, Brock).

Back then many hitters would choke up on the bat with 2 strikes, assure contact.

In recent decades baseball turned into a glorified softball league full of big/fat guys who either hit a HR or struck out.

When everyone is swinging for the fences on every pitch it makes it much easier for a perfect game to occur.

The first NL perfect game was in 1880. It took 84 years for another to happen.

Pitchers throw harder and by and large have better stuff.

Hitters are trying to crush baseballs instead of just putting it in play.
