OOC needs to count for something as well.

How come it's okay for every other sport to have a champion who failed to win their division or conference EXCEPT for college football? Even in the European soccer leagues, the second, third and sometimes the fourth place teams get automatic berths for the Champions League. MLB has two wild card teams in each league make the playoffs. Same thing with the NFL. But when teams who failed to win their division or conference make the CFB Playoff, it becomes this huge issue.

So the fact that the two best teams have to play in the same division should automatically exclude one team from the playoffs? Yea that wouldn't destroy recruiting forever

It does, when you're comparing teams from different conferences who haven't played head to head.

H2H should count wayyyyy more than OOC.

most of the conference champion homers appear to be very simple minded people

12/32 teams make the playoffs in the NFL. 10/30 in MLB. 16/30 in NBA. There are more playoff spots than division winners. Not the case with college football and conference champs.

Ohio State is at home because they lost a game they shouldn't have.

Clemson has a game because they took care of their business in conference play.

Your post makes no sense.
Ohio State will be in the playoff because they will be in the top 4. Clemson will be in the playoff if they win next week because they will be in the top 4. Washington will be in the playoff if they win next week because they will be in the top 4. Alabama will be in the playoff.

Nothing else matters.

In every example you used, there are less teams and they all play against each other throughout the season.

College football is a massive pool of teams with not that many games. The majority of the season is played within a conference schedule. You're put into a heat with a group of teams, and it's on you to get the frick out of that heat if you want to face other winners.

Alabama 2011 and possibly Ohio State this year actually benefit from NOT going to the conference championship game - that's not a good system. They basically have a bye week they didn't earn.

It does, when you're comparing teams with similar resumes.

I agree - except - we need eight 10 team conferences with a round robin champ from each conference. Instead of a 5-3 team from a weak division knocking off the 8-0 team from the strong division. Other than that - yes, I hate the morons who think they know who is "best" despite who beats who in head-to-head competition.

Every team in the PAC-12 should front load their schedule to get this loophole Ohio is going to get. Lose one of your first three games and finish strong with 9 wins in a row. P12 might get THREE teams in the playoffs. Or whichever conference decides to do this

Yeah, I don't get this reasoning that only conference champs should make it.

If Alabama are to lose to Florida, would people support a two loss CC over a one loss Bama?

11 wins vs 11 wins. One beat the other H2H and has a conference championship (ETA: Assuming they beat Wisconsin). Seems like an easy call to me.

OSU should get in over Wisconsin or Oklahoma but not over Penn State.

11 wins, but 2 losses which were to Pitt and a blow-out by Michigan.

I don't support the current format for determining an SEC champ. I would love to go back to 10 teams, and every team plays each other, with no conference championship. That's a true champion.

OSU is a much better team than Pedo State. That was just a freak upset.

Ohio State's 11 isn't the same as Penn State's 11. The Buckeyes are 3-1 against the top 8, didn't lose to Pitt, and will probably finish with wins over two P5 champs.

Even the computers put Ohio State comfortably ahead of Penn State. As in, not even in the same conversation. You need to get it out of your head that they're comparable.
