Cubs starting pitchers have now thrown a total of 19 innings in 3 games this season and allowed exactly 2 ER in those games. Lights out.

I like to think of it as a good thing that our pitching is good to make up for the lack of offense

No trade value

The value is that he gets the frick out.

Anyone in the bullpen could've done what he did today and Monday.

Yea, I guess I worded that wrong. Anyone in the bullpen could've done better than Marmol did today and Monday.

And every strike he throws is in the same location. Every slider is knee high, outer half.

And as soon as we trade him for a ptbnl he'll turn into an all-star and burn us down every time we face him.

He used to be great in the 8th inning.
I think hes just intimidated of the 9th inning.
Put him back in the setup role to at least try and add value before shipping him off for nothing.

He was even a good closer at one point. He was fantastic in 2010. The fact is his stuff has gone downhill. His fastball used to sit 95-96 and now he's usually 92-94. His slider doesn't have quite the same bite. In 2010 he had by far and away the best slider in baseball. He became obsessed with throwing that slider after all the strikeouts in 2010. His stuff just isn't the same and mix that with inconsistent mechanics and he just isn't as effective. I wouldn't want him pitching the 8th either. The wildness has nothing to do with confidence. It's his mechanics. He has very unusual mechanics making it difficult to replicate the release point. I think Fuji will soon become the closer with Russell and Camp pitching the 7th and 8th. You can mix and match with those 2 to get favorable match ups.

Marmol was effective in the past because he was able to be wild in the zone. He had a great ability to "miss bats." Now, he can't throw those pitches for strikes anymore. That slider is a shell of its former self as well. It seems to float up there and spin instead of breaking.

he was terrible to start last season, but after coming back and being placed in the closers role he did a pretty good job so there is hope.

But i don't want to wait that out again, drop him and get fujikawa in. I don't think it's the case but if he's keeping this job to try to redeem any trade value then again put fujikawa in and see if he doesn't improve his trade value (since flippable pieces is the perogative for this front office for now).

Dan Harren's hip. Cubs didn't like the medicals that came back.

I'd still take a possibly injured dan harren than a fully health carlos marmol right now.

I can't remember the financials but it seemed like we had to pay the money for harren's year extension and also pick up a little bit of marmols so that has to factor in a little bit to instead of just the health/suck issue.

Oh and brett jackson struck out twice yesterday in iowa. if we can get marmol with his inability to throw strikes and jackson with his inability to hit them on the same roster we may be unstoppable..oh wait i mean completely incapable of winning.
