Is the basis for this article some recognized poll?

It's an opinion poll based on real results -- not make-believe - that was the original point.

This is impossible, I was told by the pumpers that les is the bestest coach ever and everyone else in the country wants him.

If you took championships, winning %, and averaged final rankings...miles is sop 3 or 4

Of the active coaches who have won a NC; Miles would be last. He's also currently 18th in win % amongst active coaches.

1. Urban Myer
2. Jimbo Fisher
3. Bob Stoops
4. Nick Saban
5. Miles

Miles's resume to date doesn't put him in the company of Saban, Osborne, or Switzer, but he's way ahead of Coker or Chizik.

I think Spurrier or Fulmer might be a good comparison.

Miles has lost once to him...lol...and their best year under Mullen was a 3 loss team...has happened once. Lmao

The Mullen commentary had nothing to do with Miles. It had to do with how he made the list: making the most out of the resources you have.

I like the Fulmer comparison. I'd give Spurrier the edge from his Florida days.

I think Spurrier is probably ahead of him at the moment, but Spurrier was fortunate that he only had to beat UT every year to win the conference.

I would think that another championship, or even a playoff appearance would give Miles the bump over him.

Remember Spurrier had to beat FSU too.

But I agree. Miles winning another championship changes a lot of things.

ETA: he's top 10. and thats with a few coaches in front of him that haven't even gone through a recruiting cycle yet

Fact is in 11 seasons he has had 2 losses or less regular seasons over 50% of the time....which means the majority of the time for some of you that don't understand what 50% means...lol...6 years out of 11 he has had 2 losses or less....3 more years he has had only 3 losses in reg season....so 9 out of 11 years he has lost 3 games or less

the FACT is that many people don't care about facts when they espouse their opinions. hell, just look at our supposedly role models; candidates for President of the United States.FACTS seem to get in the way of agendas.

you are a great poster. you actually use facts and you are level headed.

I thought that was what Nov 28 was all about?

You can Lose 3-4 games but being a nice guy is what it's all about. I was told it was crazy to want to compete for championships every year on here

That's not the conversation. It was all-time win % with active national championship coaches. There's another topic on all-time active vs non-active.

And if you open that can of worms of "just at LSU" then it can be taken with further variations like the last 4 seaons - where he's 37-14 or 72.5%.

Also note his all-time win % is 72.4%.

In statistics -- you call that a regression to the mean.

I'm not trying to be a total dick...but you do realize that this is the career for miles....not his LSU % right? Also, there are several no names on this list...small programs.

Jumbo fisher isn't better...nor is big game Bob....but even if we assume they aren't...thanks for proving my point that he is a top 5 coach based off of accomplishments.

Are you frickn serious with this shite? Good god you are not smart at all...and I'm being kind.

The discussion is the tenure of miles at LSU. I don't GAF what he did at OK st. If you look at his championships, championships played for, top 25 average finish, and record, its not even debatable that his accomplishments at LSU would clearly have him in too 5 of active coaches. Period. Good god kid.

One other thing to note is that in the 11 years Les has been the coach his teams have had to play 8 eventual national champs and 1 runner up. That is a tough yearly schedule for any coach to navigate through and still averages 2.27 losses per year (25 losses in 11 years). Subtract the losses to the 9 teams playing in the NC games and Les has an average of 1.46 losses against non NC game teams. That my friends is a Quality Coach.

In the last 4 four years, Miles is 20-12 in the SEC, and 14-10 against SEC West teams.

People will accuse me of cherry-picking with what follows, but our record the last 4 years against Bama, Auburn, Ole Miss, and Arky is 7-9.
