Jeff Hostetler, Dan Marino, Johnny Unitas and Joe Namath were also Pennsylvania quarterbacks who started in the Super Bowl.

George Blanda, Terry Hanratty are also from Pennsylvania and played in but did not start the Super Bowl as quarterbacks. Johnny Unitas was in a second Super Bowl but did not start that game. However, he did finish it.

ETA:Forgot about Kerry Collins and Rich Gannon.

The total of Super Bowl starts for PA quarterbacks is 14.

I actually did it all before seeing your post. I did it at work with a spreed sheet and will update the original post with these numbers. I did by birthplace to make it clear.

California - 16
Louisiana - 14
Pennsylvania - 14
Ohio - 11
Washington - 7
New Jersey - 5
Indiana - 4
Alabama - 3
Michigan - 3
Iowa - 3
Virginia - 3
Mississippi - 3
New York - 2
Georgia - 2
Illinois - 2
Colorado - 1
Kansas - 1
Kentucky - 1
New Mexico - 1
Texas - 1
Utah - 1
Wisconsin - 1
Canada - 1

If anybody cares to know who is part of each State, just ask.

Unitas came off the bench on one of his Superbowls so only 14 for Penn.

Eh high school is the better metric than place of birth and I don't think it's that much harder to do. It's dumb that brad johnson counts for Georgia and Fran tarkenton doesn't. Pretty meaningless.

Can you break it down by starting QBs from each state rather than total starts from each QB? That would eliminate the multiple years for many guys and get down to total starting QBs in the Super Bowl. For instance, you would say that LA has produced 7 starting QBs in the Super Bowl out of how many unique starting QBs?

So that brings you to 58 total starters not counting repeats.

So Louisiana makes up about 12% of them.

Thanks.

Still pretty incredible from per capita standpoint. I actually find that more impressive than the 28% stat. LA has produced one less Super Bowl starting QB than CA and PA despite a fraction of the population.

Am I missing something or has Florida never produced a QB that started in the Super Bowl?

There are 83 active NFL players from Louisiana high schools and only 67 from Alabama high schools.

Additionally there are 87 active NFL players born in Louisiana and only 63 born in Alabama.

I've seen an article that says Alabama is #1 per capita, but I can't seem to find any numbers that back it up...

Texas really didn't become known for QB play until very recently. UT OU Arkansas A&M etc were huge wishbone and option schools for a really long time

83? Where are you finding that? That's substantially more than the article I'm reading

Both of those articles claim Alabama is tops per capita in 2015
