You might be able to answer this. Why is a guy like SVG so polarizing for the old guard? The guys literally one of the best race car drivers on the planet. He pivoted to another discipline in his mid 30s and is figuring it out at a pretty rapid pace.
I don’t understand how a guy can be so disliked just because he was born on the other side of the planet.

Who doesn’t like him? I think its awesome having him in races. Seeing him learn on the fly.
I think what you are referring to is how he was presented after winning his first ever race in Chicago. Afterwards there was talk pushed about him being one of the best. He got overhyped by racing sports pundits and that likely turned off some fans because of how hard it was pushed and his win pimped. Many local, regional and national writers slobbered about it.
Now Nascar leadership, they don’t care about anything but trying to alienate their long time fans. They helped push that narrative to squeeze more new fans and push out old. If you recall it was full blown giddy by Nascar and TV for a long time. All ads had him. They still do show him as one of the 5 shown to advertise next races.
Thats 2 different things. I think he’s great for the sport because unlike Bubba he can race and win without it being a fluke. His road coarse craft is second to none right now, and its fun watching racers try. He’s making drivers better at road courses. And getting better at ovals.
Thats my perspective. He got pushed by 2 different groups. The first one is normal in all sports when something good happens and usually does down quickly enough. The second is what the sport leaders do with it and they pushed it hard for a lot longer.

I don't disagree. I have Prime, so I actually get all of these races vs FS1 where I refuse to get the Fox streaming app with all of the others I already have. Prime is hands down the best coverage not only of the race but before and after. It's hard to blame NASCAR for taking the deal though, especially when Fox and NBC had started to constantly move the Cup races for other programs onto non-linear channels. It honestly feels like Fox and NBC are saying we will get our numbers no matter where we put it, while Prime actually wants the sport.
Nascar got greedy and took the higher Prime money. The problem is Nascar losing viewers over 5 and 10 year periods, lots of them. Nascar created this problem when they split it up to begin with. So neither broadcast team had the whole season. Then adding Prime now makes it 3.
But Prime is new and spending more money. So did networks when they had all season. Eventually when Prime gets to end of contract they’ll offer Nascar less money due to less viewers. And thats why Fox cut back because they only have first segment of year.
If Fox had the whole year they’d invest more and be better. Prime is new and investing. But over time the dollars won’t be there and they’ll cut back if they don’t get whole year, just like the others did.
Nascar created this mess chasing the dollar. Had they stayed with one network for less overall money, they would have grown viewers. And then that growth would have allowed them to get bigger future deals with network. But they took the now money over future of sport because they got too greedy. And here we are. What good is a better production if fans don’t watch?

Yup lol
The only social I have is twitter. I am not a paid member. I just use it read stuff. I use it in safari and create lists of known good writers over years. Then can just open the list and read in newest to oldest order. I have never actually replied or written a text on it.
I have one for college football and racing and basketball and politics and other stuff. If I find one thats unreliable I take em off my list. Thats the key is whose info you can trust and it takes time to learn and thats what I’ve done. Twitter is the fastest best way to get any information but you have to take time to set up lists and learn who to trust.
I have no facebook, no Instagram, no tiktok, no nothing other than twitter.
I also have bookmarks on safari for websites.

Mark Martin posted this old vid this morning on X. Man I miss the drivers and the cars of that generation. Also the booth was top notch.

I needed a new guy after Harvick retired. The way he burst on the scene and uprooted his life to move over here sold me.
I used to watch supercars back on speed. The guy was just blowing up at that time. But I remember Leigh Diffey saying during the 2011 Bathurst 1000 “if Kyle Busch is wild thing, then SVG is the wild man. This guy may fit in nascar later in his career.”
The guy is just a badass race car driver. That deserves to be appreciated.

Same here. Then FOX got the NASCAR contract in 2000, purchased Speed and then turned it almost in an exclusive NASCAR channel. Then they killed Speed and eventually turned it into a FOX Sports Network channel.
I miss turning on Speed late at night and seeing V8 Supercars, DTM, Dirt Bike circle track racing from the UK, Airplane racing, etc... There was all kinds of awesome content back then.

No way Mags can do what SVG did and does. Supercars taught SVG close racing with some clean contact. Mags will do well but nothing like SVG imo. He isn’t used to banging fenders

Didn’t know they were making a movie about this. Wonder how realistic it will be? Most dangerous race in the world

It’s been rough this year. I think they have had 2 fatalities and cancelled the side car races completely after one of them took flight, luckily those riders survived.

Mags on a brand new street course will be interesting.

That was an awesome trailer of what happens when you cross Fast and Furious with TopGun. I’d watch it!
