I think we’ll see a lot of carnage in trucks. To pass will need to use bumper. Qualifying up front will be important. Not sure about Cup but backmarkers will cause cautions to stack them up.

From Jayski
The CW had 1,011,000 total viewers for the double overtime NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series race at EchoPark Speedway, per Nielsen panel-only data. It was the most-watched summer race at Atlanta in five years.
Viewership peaked late in the race at 1,072,000 viewers between 10:15 and 10:30 p.m. ET. The audience grew 4% compared to the same race weekend in 2025, held at Sonoma Raceway.

Everyone knows NOAP puts on the best racing. Atlanta Cup is great too, the best Cup races of year imo. But NOAP is great all year long. And has the best booth.

Yeah, I thick getting around lapped cars will be pretty entertaining. You could gain or lose a second depending on where you come upon the lapped car on the track.

Agree. That will be the fun part when they catch lappers who are side by side

Found footage of Bubba chopping Gibbs. Then Bubba confronts him after race.
Its pretty clear Bubba chopped right in front and left no time for Gibbs to react. I wished both would have wrecked to be honest

This guy tracks points using the old Winston Cup points format. Its amazing how Nascar changed history when they changed them up. Also the recent years would have been close points races.

And here is 2026 Winston Cup after Atlanta
I think I’ll start posting these every week too.

It’s never Bubba’s fault ??
Of course not. He always plays the victim this is well established going back to garage door ties. He has never taken accountability.
I recall when he assaulted Kyle Larson on live TV and then pushed a Nascar worker and then walked across infield and only got 1 race suspension. He has a bad temper and makes bad decisions because of it. Then blames everyone else.
We all know why he has the ride and its not because of racing talent. That team could be dominant if they had a good driver in that seat.
Reddick doesn’t have a teammate to share notes with which makes his achievements all the more impressive. Imagine someone like Bell if he was in that seat.

I know you can always say people would have driven different if the points were different but 7 for Gordon and 4 for Harvick feels more like what they deserved.

Atlanta is to me the best racing Cup has to offer in current car form.
Some said Sun nights are bad yet they draw in viewers.
And I wish they listed year ago numbers comparison so my guess is its down YOY. But was going to do monster numbers prior to 3 hour delay. Thats still a lot of viewers for such a late race after the rain delay

NASCAR has announced changes to the Superspeedway aero package, which will be in place for the race at Daytona in August. Being the geniuses they are, NASCAR will reduce the horsepower at superspeedways.

I mentioned this a few pages ago as likely to happen. I also speculated they gave Toyota the specs secretly so have more time to plan and engineer strategies. No proof just my own season long post lawsuit theories lol

The HP reduction means even tighter packs. And more carnage.
It also means less drivers letting off throttle due to taking longer to wind engine up. So less giving and more taking/wrecks.
To me they needed more HP. Give them more HP with the smaller spoiler would mean having to slow in corners and break ip packs a bit and allow more real passing.
Most of what they count as passing in post race stats is really just one line moving ahead of the other. Not real passing, just congo line passing.

I hate that NASCAR is always taking horsepower away. You make some valid points.

Heard both Jr and Denny both comment on this yesterday and both think it will make the racing better. The lower spoiler will reduce the "pocket" of air behind the car. They both said it "should" facilitate a more Atlanta like race.
Also not a fan of reducing HP. They also both said this should go a long way towards addressing the fuel mileage BS on a superspeedway. Because the cars will have a better ability to pass on their own drivers will beciome more aggressive.
We will see if these changes help. I do however applaud NASCAR for at least trying to fix the problem. Especialy such an aggressive move in the middle of the season. At least they are hearing us.

The problem is that diffuser under the car. NOAP doesn’t have it, which makes the cars race different.
I am not convinced because with less HP the cars will need ti be wound up longer to keep the HP working. If you approach a car and even slow the engine a skosh to wait for the best pass opportunity you have less ability to get it wound back up for the pass.
Once you hit the air alone it will be harder, because imo they took HP away. The rear spoiler reduction should help but the HP reduction counters that.
It might be like those days when you had 2 car tandem racing?
