they are complaining that the heavy push to the batteries is fricking shite and even Leclerc, who won the race, joked about it.

The drivers not winning are the drivers you are talking about right?
Did you not see Leclerc called it out as Mario Kart and using the mushroom
And Max moved from 20th to 6th. Likely would have been top 3 if not for his mishap in quali. He and Hadj showed the RB is competitive, but Max still says the regs are shite and boring.

F1 hid over 1,000 replies. They are in max damage control but you can’t fool most race fans. The video clip shows the actual hidden replies as an example.

The only driver that came out and said it was "great" and "fun" was Hamilton... Russell said they need to give it a shot, Kimi said a few more races before making judgement. Everyone else didn't like it

Formula 1 kicked off its new season in style at the Australian Grand Prix, which featured a frantic start, battles for the lead and a handful of retirements. George Russell won for Mercedes in a race that was dominated by talk of the new cars, which have divided opinion in the paddock.
For 2026, F1 rolls out new regulations that mandate for smaller, lighter cars that are powered by new hybrid engines with a near-50:50 split in power between electrical energy and internal combustion. The cars bring with them a new way of racing, as F1 adds active aero on the front and rear wings, a new boost mode to replace DRS, and racers are changing the way they drive in order to keep their battery packs topped up
This new way of driving has left some racers happy with F1’s new era, while others leave Australia disappointed with the championship’s change in direction. This is what the grid had to say about the on-track action after the opening race of the season.
Lewis Hamilton: “I thought it was great”
Esteban Ocon: “It's very frustrating”
Lando Norris: “Not for me”
Liam Lawson: “Not super fun to drive”
Kimi Antonelli: "Better than what we anticipated"
Oliver Bearman: “A lot of stuff to think about”
Carlos Sainz: “It was really sketchy”
Max Verstappen: “I want it to be better than this”
Pierre Gasly: “We need to give it some time”
Charles Leclerc: "You always try and think multiple steps ahead"
George Russell: “You need to give it a shot”
Sergio Perez: “A very different Formula 1”
Arvid Lindblad: “It’s different”
Gabriel Bortoleto: “I'm still a bit confused”
Valtteri Bottas: “It is a different type of racing”

Even George and Charles complained
(FYI, the above is referencing ALL the drivers complaining about the previous formula being terrible because of the bouncing)

At one point during his epic battle out in front, Leclerc made a quip on the radio, "This is like the mushroom in Mario Kart."

Yes, you can pull snippets and find drivers complaining. Happens in every formula. No one is debating that.
Im sure you have it printed out.

Not like this. And most important a huge volume if fans hate it and thats what ultimately pays the bills. You cannot ignore that. Fans would always complain about moves drivers made but not this many complained about the car.
Fans want drivers racing and using their driving skills. This current version is just managing electrics and not racecraft. Huge difference. No driver can be “best” because its all about the batteries. At least before it was pretty common knowledge Max was a great “racer”. Can anyone say the winner was a great racer last night or was it all about batteries and engineers. I haven’t seen any comments how great the winner did in race-craft

You had these same feelings when Max had the far superior car and was driving away from the field? Did you want that formula changed?
Herd mentality online had everyone shitting on this formula until the first 14 laps were ran and showed some of the best opening laps we've seen in 20 years. Now the results have the herd all pumping each other up again. Pulling quotes and beating a dog.

He swore off watching F1 ever again. He missed the race and is just going off reports of the race.

When did you become such a bitch on here? I never said I wasn’t watching F1, I said the Apple deal is fricking stupid and at the end of May when my half off Apple Sub runs out, I’m not paying $14 a month to watch

You can get most of the action on the webs if you know how to find them. I won’t be joining Apple, final answer.
Anyways, enjoy the battery battles in souped up lawnmower engines.

Pretty much always been a bitch on here. And was making a joke mostly. I like the banter as long as it doesn't turn hateful (not saying yours is hateful).
Also if you have Amazon you can pay $8/month to watch if the savings help.

The sound these things put out is fricking terrible. I was thinking about the AMG One and how it runs the previous f1 derived engine. How terrible would it be to hear one of these ripping around town.

All was faked using technology taking driving skills away. It was batteries designed to “reduce” power and thats the only reason for your excitement. Thats not racing. Imagine being a driver and you push gas pedal and lose power. I din’t know what to call it but it’s not race-craft that I know.

Obviously. Buddy you are going to have to take a break. You've been in here complaining since before the race even started. Teams spent millions of dollars developing these engines. The first race of the season was less than 24 hours ago. They aren't going to cancel the rest of the season and said whoops we made a mistake let's take the year off. If the drivers aren't happy I'm sure we will have some changes start to come into play

Saw some discussion on fuel flow regs being a potential solution for the long straights. Not sure how that impacts engine development or the battery drop off.
It seems Ferrari is showing that the smaller turbo was the way to go. They miss out on the top end but that initial spin up is so much faster out of ever corner over and over.

What's funny is that almost everyone has played silly racing games with power-ups, so they recognize the silly game feeling of the back-and-forth passing. Fans inherently understand that you can pass when you have a boost, but then someone will pass you because they have the boost and you don't. Sharl's comment just reinforces the fans' perception of what's going on.
