Sounds like they have Calum Nicholas in the booth. Giving some good insights.

Haas not looking great so far.

Yuki P6 had a good session considering this was his first time in the car.

Hirakawa in the Alpine for the first time in place of Doohan, beats Gasly by 0.153s. He was the only substitute FP1 driver.

Massive crash for Doohan after just one hot lap in FP2. His day is over, and precious time is lost during the red flag.

Maybe they shouldn't have taken away track time from a rookie in FP1.

They should have put Hirakawa in Gasly's car.

Yikes, the replay seemed to indicate that DRS was still open when he went into Turn 1.

But he did one successful hot lap, so how did he screw up DRS on his second hot lap?

Doohan goes for the full send.

Flavio probably not pleased.

What a bang in T1 for #Doohan . Seen like this it loses the rear end on entry, it had just touched the top speed of 331 kph... #JapaneseGP

Yeah that would have been a real hero lap if he pulled that off.

From the announcer chatter, apparently at Suzuka you don't lift the throttle at the entrance to Turn 1, so you have to manually close DRS, and it looks like Doohan forgot to manually close it.

The replay also showed that his left wheels were on the outside line when he started turn-in, so maybe that was the actual issue? In other words, if all four wheels were on solid grippy tarmac, he could have turned in at full throttle and lifted a moment after turn-in to close DRS.

Dammit, another red flag almost immediately. Alonso touches grass before turn-in and goes off.

FP2 is ruined.

Grass on fire this time. What a shitshow.

I have a hard time understanding Ayao but he said the new floor is an improvement. They had some other issue they had to address in FP1.

Sounds like he expects they can find some speed in the setup overnight before FP3.

The most important things for Yuki is to

1.) Not completely suck

2.) Know his role.

If he pushes Max and doesn't yield/block for him then he's gonna have a hard life at RBR. My biggest concern for Yuki is that he may think he's in that seat to actually try to win.
