OK Larson is locked into the Chase, correct?
Flame away, but if it’s me, if rain disrupts Indy I am staying there and blowing off Charlotte.
How many friggin’ chances do you have to get your face on the Borg-Warner?

Agree. He has a good Indy car. And might get lucky with Nascar facing weather issues as well.
Of all 3 races, Indy is the one I'm most looking forward to.

He basically is since he already has wins this season, but the rules say that a driver must start every race to be playoff eligible. This means NASCAR would have to give him a waiver, but I think they would do so.

Jeff Gluck seems to think Larson would stay at Indy if weather impacts the schedule and forces him to make a choice.

Justin Allgaier is on standby for the 5 team for the Coke 600.

If he were to win Indy, it would absolutely be to NASCAR’s benefit from a PR standpoint. I think a waiver would be a no brainer for them.
Of course it’s NASCAR …

Sounds like they are going to have to push Indy back. Don’t think Larson will be at the 600.

90% chance of Thunderstorms in Indy w/severe weather

I would guess Hendrick/Larson are probably trying to secure a guarantee on the waiver from NASCAR this morning. If they get that, he stays at Indy.

Seems like that would have been something that was secured well before this morning since there has been a chance of rain all week

Perhaps they have. If there is any doubt about getting a waiver, then I think Larson is simply forced to abandon Indy for the Coke 600. As terrible as that would be, he can’t give up Cup Championship eligibility.

You would think NASCAR would grant a waiver if they haven't already.
But this is NASCAR we are talking about.

I’ll be honest. As cool as the Larson/Indy 500 story is, I sort of hope they don’t grant the waiver. Imagine another driver missing the playoffs due to Larson getting special treatment for a situation that he is very much choosing to be in.

Yeah. Why would NASCAR want to grant a waiver for something that is giving their sport positive press coverage, increased fan interest, and will bring in more tv viewers?

Imagine being a winless driver backing into the playoffs because Larson, who is currently leading the points and has multiple wins, is excluded due to weather because he was prompting the NASCAR series on a different stage with the chance to accomplish an historic feat.

Larson is already in. So he wouldn't kick anyone out.

Man, come on. No one is watching a NASCAR race due to Larson driving in the Indy 500.

He would if gets away with breaking the rules.
ETA: the waiver is for events outside of a driver’s control. that’s either true for everyone or it’s not, and if it’s not, that’s a wild precedent to set going forward.

NASCAR and FOX Sports 1 earned 2.573 million average viewers for the 2024 All-Star Race at North Wilkesboro, up roughly 17% from the 2023 event. This could be due to Kyle Larson's attempt at "The Double," as he flew in before the race after Indianapolis 500 qualifying.

Oh, so they’re chasing NASCAR fans. I figured they were trying to get fans of open-wheel racing to watch.

Meh, on second thought grant the fricking waiver. Sometimes I forget NASCAR isn’t serious.
