Article on Borges.
Borges Cross Country Dash
“We went back to the hotel, got some food, then headed to the airport for a flight at 11.20pm (Pacific time, 2.30am Miami time). Borges landed in Atlanta at 5.30am ET for a 7.10am connection. And then there was a hiccup.
“We got on the plane and we had a 30-minute wait and then we were told we would need to change planes due to a technical issue. For a second I had a thought that I wouldn’t make it to today’s match,” he said.
Borges landed in Miami around 11am, headed to the hotel for a quick nap and then took the 2pm shuttle to the site.
“I didn’t properly warm up to be honest. Just got a feel for the court with a 20-30 minute hit at 3,” he said. “Headed to physio, had a quick warm up and somehow played a great match. I felt better than I expected, to be honest. I’ve got a lot of confidence from the matches I played last week and before that.
“I probably got about 4 ½ hours total sleep. Maybe two hours on the first flight, 90 minutes on the second flight and then an hour’s nap at the hotel.”
Also didn't realize that they have 175 point Challengers. Almost better off playing those for points instead of 250s.

Good stuff. So curious to see how he backs it up today.

Just realized Carlito didn't drop a set at IW. He's 10/1 to duplicate the feat in Miami.

Raducanu and Andreescu is a pretty good war going on here.

Speaking of Iga. She's withdrawn from Miami with a rib injury. Opens the draw a ton for everyone else.

JJ about to put down Buble. I can't decide if I like this tournament or think it's a joke. I probably need to go see it. I give Stephen Ross credit for throwing a bunch of money at it. I don't think that was feasible on Key Biscayne.

Bruh, like you said, it's in the parking lot of a football stadium (and, literally in the football stadium). I'm guessing they spruce up the place for the tournament.

Haven’t been there but they do a pretty decent job with it I think. Would imagine parking and getting around is a lot easier. It’s not IW or anything but I’ve seen worse.

They won facility of the year once. Wonder if the only candidates were other tennis facilities that were open during Covid

Was going through the draw and Borges completely screwed himself by winning that Qualifying match against Gojo. He wins and is matched up with Ruusuvuori the next day. If he loses to Gojo, he's likely in as a Lucky Loser and gets a day's rest and an easier 1st round opponent.
The lucky losers in the draw are Kokkinakis (-600 vs Bergs), Kovacevic (-150 vs Munar), and O'Connell (+110 vs Gasquet). None of them play today.

There's no set order for LL though right? Or at least it's not known. Otherwise guys would be dropping like flies in the last round of qualies.

Right, it's a random draw of the ranked losers of the final round. Used to be top ranked loser, but when Gimelstob used that to his advantage at wimby (played one service game while hurt then withdrew since he was highest ranked) they changed it for slams, then later for ATP.

Wozniacki says they are using a heavy Dunlop ball in Miami as opposed to Penn balls from IW which fly quicker. FWIW.

Oh shite forgot about that. Daniil hated the hell out of them last year. Guess he’s a ball specialist too

Gotcha. Didn't realize it wasn't guaranteed for the higher seed.

Wild Card Emilio Nava just upset Isner in straight sets 7-6, 7-6. Seems like the kind of match that might make Isner hang it up after this year. But I'm sure that's been said before.

From my buddies, they say Miami is a piece of corn in a pile of shite compared to Indian Wells from a players perspective

Bunk always talks about how his matches are basically defined by a couple of points. The opponent almost doesn’t matter. Kinda funny to think about how he can win Miami a few years back (and make like $1 mil) and then lose to dudes ranked in the 300’s with basically the same game/level.
