He's the face of racing on NBC.

Great move by Newgarden for the win.

Loved seeing him go into the stands.

Yeah it definitely wasn't a good look.

What are they going to say? Roger Penske literally controls everything about the series.

That was my point. No one collecting a paycheck from the series is going to say anything.

Him and Danica are the poster children for entertainment racing.

Meh, Dale Jr was voted a top 75 driver in NASCAR history, and he didn't just get it because of his name. His record was pretty stellar, despite the lack of a Cup championship. Dirty Mo Media has become quite influential because he's willing to be critical of the sport.

Danica only had one win in her career between IndyCar and NASCAR, but I think she has been a pretty capable analyst. She might've never been a great driver, but she certainly isn't an idiot when it comes to racing.

Jr was a very solid driver, but, like Danica, got more TV coverage than he might have otherwise.

No doubt they got more coverage than other drivers, for clear reasons. Just saying it doesn't invalidate their analysis or opinions.

Junior was much better than solid. He won 26 races. He won on every type of track(except road courses). The only thing missing from his resume is a title.

But to call him just solid and attribute that to his coverage isn't fair IMO.

Like it or not, he's the face of NASCAR
Even moreso in retirement.

1. Happy for Newgarden
2. Glad they finished under green
3. Erickson has legitimate gripe
4. They wasted laps on other red flags
5. Indy lucky that tire didn’t kill anyone
6. Indy should go with GWC model

I like Danica's insight. She needs to quit using so.many "um's and "you knows" but she has some chops. Plus her looks definitely don't hurt. She knows her stuff.

Yep. He seems like a great guy who gets it. Great driver too.

Agreed. They made the right decision.

Meh. He comes off as an entitled douchebag.

I can't disagree.

Agreed. But it was also everything happening at the right time for that tire to come off like that.

Yep.

Danica just needs more screen time. She’s a heck of a commentator. Honestly would rather have her in the booth than Townsend Bell.

I wonder if she's gonna be involved in the pre-post race coverage when NBC picks up NASCAR at the end of June?

My thoughts on the race: I thought something was fishy with race control/directors when Ferruccii was NOT given the non-pass through penalty for uncontrolled tire. He was leading at the time. Then to NOT give immediate red flag on certain crashes had me thinking that Indycar wants to control who and how the race would finish.

It actually bothered me so much, I downloaded Indycar Rulebook and it basically gives Indycar (Stewards) any and all decisions as they see fit. There is no in-ink rules or penalties. In fact, for Ferruccii's pit crew, I couldn't find any rule against the tire leaving pit box or being uncontrolled. Just generic impeding the race of another type wording. Ferruccii's team probably shouldnt have even gotten the financial penalty.

Speaking of whiny... You should hear the F1 stans bitching about her being on TV for the US held races. She's the best female they've got and it is Comcast Universal aftershocks so you know there's gotta be some inclusion. Give it 10 years and it'll be Dale, Danica, and Bubba on NBC.

Before replays I thought for sure someone was dead. If that collision happened half a second earlier (or later) they'd be talking about whether the race should've restarted after deathS in the stands.

It's great that they had all of these safety improvements over the past couple of decades. This just showed that while the sport can never be made 100% safe, they've made it as safe as possible for the drivers. (Sr, Wheldon, etc did not die in vain.)

His tire changer kept contact with the tire. Was it out of his pot box? Yes. But it didn't affect any other driver and the rule is written for cars where the tire is rolling across the lane.

That's a little silly. I do think Danica will be involved somehow, whether in the booth or in pre-post race. She's good. And she has room to grow. And we all know Junior is gonna be the #1 color guy.

Bubba....
