I would like to get away from Mega threads like this...is there not a way to do a discussion thread for each race?

Personally I find the mega thread way more informative and easier to keep up with than a bunch of other threads to sift through. Plus there's so many other things throughout the season that are discussed that aren't just races. That's just my opinion though.

2nd vote for a megathread. Lots of non-race items get discussed in here that don't need a separate thread for each little intertwined topic.
