an "agreement with the County" that meant they couldn't ensure clear streets so the fans couldn't stay.

It’s Vegas… there’s always a way around

The people that this was meant to attract were the first in for this event. Paid overpriced amounts to go and from jump, you fricked then.

Doesn’t bode well for that money to come back again.

Indy has better racing and tracks domestically.

You’ll see better racing and meaningful overtaking at an Indycar race , not to mention unprecedented access to world class drivers (a good portion who are better than the current crop of f1 guys) , the paddock/ teams and be surrounded by actual race fans and not clout chasers.

The indy 500 puts all other races to shame

I hope all the newbies feel cheated. Ready for them to flee and we can return to race fans only and reasonable prices.

the problem with f1 is that it will always attract the clout chasing types that are there for the wrong reason.

F1 has already managed to turn off everyone involved in the Las Vegas GP - Locals upset - Paying fans disrespected - TV audience exhausted - Purists hate it - Drivers bothered - Safety concerns overlooked - Ferrari pissed It’s only year 1 but Vegas might already be doomed.

Really wonder if this thing ends up 1 and done.

Big opportunity for Indycar.

By your count the most they can win over is 30k people though.

That would triple a normal Indy car race attendance though.

lol ok…cope harder.. your so called pinnacle of motorsport is squandering the 3 years of momentum it has accrued in this nation in real time

Say what you want about Indycar , but they would have handled this situation exponentially better

Maybe I will start shite posting in the Indy thread about how F1 compares to Indy.

I'll start with track times, follow up with how FIA stripped Indy of world championship points, then finish with how every top Indy driver is trying to get to F1 and only washed up F1 drivers end up in Indy due to lack of options.

Only Indy race I have seen to date, New Orleans, 2015. Want me to rundown what a great experience that was?

so your main argument is over something that happened almost 60 years ago?

get back to me when F1 guys have the balls to run trimmed out at at 242 mph into turn 1

Indycars are desgined for both ovals and road courses , thus are required to have more robust construction to absorb exponentially more Gs than the worst crash in F1. Of course they arent going to be as fast on road courses.

Scott Dixon? Scott Mclaughlin? Will Power ? Newgarden?? Lets talk about how a multi podium F1 driver who was the star of DTS can’t even win a race in Indycar and now has to take a seat on a backmarker team to stay in the series

Or how Kevin Magnusson was uncompetitive during his indycar stint? Or how Ferrari’s top jr driver can’t even podium in 2 seasons with decent equipment?

That can at least be blamed on poor weather, not from pricing out a fanbase and failing to conduct proper due diligence in track construction. I’d love to see Indycar return to NOLA motorsports park , I’d be the first person to buy tickets

Bro, I have no problem with Indy or what is has or will do. I try to watch most weekends when it is on.

I am mocking your little man syndrome when it comes to F1 being popular. Let it go, F1 popularity will retreat in a few years and there won't even be threads for you to snivel in.

I just hope that F1 regains some intelligence and resets the session start times next year. This race is horribly times. I know they are trying to hit the euro markets, hopefully they fail on timing and we can actually get a semi-decent race next year.

Agreed. Not sure what time is best to hit night in Vegas and the primary markets, but this is shite.

Getting rid of cig sponsors

Getting rid of v-10s

tilkedromes and the emasculation of bad arse tracks

selling out the traditional europen F1 heartland for the middle east and china (remember Hockenheim, European GP, French GP?)

Getting rid of Grid Girls

F1 wokeness

The Halo

I could go on

Tilke had some losers (Sochi), but Sepang, Bahrain, COTA are all winners. Yas and Marina Bay aren't exactly terrible for "street" tracks, just a product of what he had to deal with.

@AustinCindric: "You buy a general admission ticket (at NASCAR), and you can come take a selfie with your favorite driver and get an autograph nine times out of 10, whereas if I go to [a] Formula 1 race, I'm never seeing Lewis Hamilton."

Vegas resident John Megna and his two kids "each paid $2,258 for three-day race tickets. To only catch a few minutes of F1 drivers practicing before being forced to leave left a bad taste in Megna’s mouth, calling it 'an absolute disaster for the fans.'"

Agree with most things except

1) cig sponsors - no need to "cancel" the epic era but need to move on, and

2) the halo - understand the argument both ways but for better or worse it's been life saving in multiple occurrences and open wheel series have all adopted some similar standard
