That’s a welded down manhole cover being ripped out of the asphalt. I don’t see how this race happens

That thing is 8” wide. It’s not a manhole.

That looks a lot smaller than a manhole cover.

Yeah well it would be nice if I could watch on ESPN as advertised and I pay for it and all.

Pretty shitty to cut the feed.

@SkySportsF1
The FIA confirm that the issue in FP1 was from a 'concrete frame around a manhole cover that has failed' and that they will check all other manhole covers at the circuit

$500 million to bring F1 to Las Vegas... and we got 9 minutes.

I didn't think anything could have been a worse value than Deshaun Watson's contract. I was wrong.

There is more than 1 drain cover that has come up. Currently FIA are in a meeting to discuss how many covers there are and need to be checked. The drains are sealed with a cover sealant that the cars have pulled up out of the track due to the downforce that they generate.

The FIA will then have to make a decision wether or not FP2 will need to be canceled or moved back later in the evening. However the opening and closing time of the roadways is from 7pm - 4am local time.

Fred Vasseur is very angry. Calls it "unacceptable". Says Ferrari will have to change the chassis and definitely miss FP2 with Sainz's car

Adds it'll cost the team a fortune. He's speaking in the FIA press conference and unsurprisingly not willing to answer questions about Las Vegas as an event or anything else at this stage

Someone thought they would be smart and use some sealant instead of welding the damn things like they have done for years.
