However losing 10% of windtunnel time will mean that if everyone finishes in the same order as they are in now, they will have 12% less than Ferrari 17% less than Mercedes for next year. That will have a big impact!

Lec at 1:20.753 in FP1. Danny Ric qualified for RB at 1:14.7 in 2018. We got a ways to go yet

So there are 5 different categories that are affected and we will start with Wind Tunnel Runs. Originally RBR would have gotten 224 runs, now they get 201 runs vs Ferrari at 240, and Merc at 256.

Wind On time drops to 50 hours from 56 vs Ferrari at 60 and Merc at 64 and Wind Tunnel occupancy time goes from 280 hours to 252, again with Ferrari having 300 hours and Merc 320 (occupancy matters because it takes time to make changes to models when testing and for computations)

But what about CFD??? Well RBR were originally restricted to 1400 RATGs (Restricted Aero Test Geometries, which basically means each one is a specific shape, any change counts as a new RATG) and now only have 1260. Ferrari get 1500 and Merc 1600.

Last is the amount of time used by computers to solve the equations (expressed in MAUh lol literally Mega Allocation Unit hours and no, go read it yourself if you need further details) which sees RBR trimmed from 4.2 hours to 3.78 whilst Ferrari will get 4.5 hours and Merc 4.8

So what difference does that make overall? Another way to think of this is that Ferrari is going from a 5% advantage overall to a 12% advantage overall and Merc is going from a 10% to a 17% advantage. That is significant IMO, but exactly how much so remains to be seen.

Last year Ferrari gained 12% more tunnel time and Binotto said it resulted in less than .1 sec of lap time. That was with a completely new car. Going into next year I would imagine it wouldn't be as much of an advantage with a more mature platform.

Ferrari really threw away a great chance this year. They started the year with the fastest car and fricked up long enough for RB to catch up. Pisses me off just thinking about it

Can RB just leverage the AT wind tunnel time? Unofficially of course.

And Horner claims the 12% less equates to .4-.5 sec.

Believe what you want. I don't see how there is a way to quantify it accurately.

well anything Horner says should immediately considered total bullshite but I'm not holding my breath that Ferrari can benefit. They just are to replete with incompetence

RB doesn't have the straight line advantage that merc had for 6 years. Ferrari is very close but they can't get out of their own way and have some shitty luck. They need to spend the entire off-season figuring out why they get shite tire wear. Lec was faster than max after the botched pitstop but just faded away after 10 laps

You mean can the engineers talk a little shop while standing outside the wind tunnel waiting for their turn? Yes, and it has been addressed that the FIA will not stop it.

If my maths are correct there will be no extra Super Licence point for Logan Sargeant - he completed 22 laps of the 4.304km circuit, which equates to just over 96km. Needs to complete 100km in an FP1 session to earn a SL point
